Although our total points are smaller than I had wished we just finished our DVC paperwork. We are happy owners of 100 points at The Grand Californian. I am looking forward to our first trip in November in which I have already reserved a 1 bedroom villa for 3 nights. I am sure we will be buying more points soon. Cheers to the memories with the kids and thanks to everyone on the board for the great advice.

Did you buy them direct thru Disney or resale? We are in ROFR process with 230 points at bwv now and are thinking about trying go direct through disney to get 70 points at VGC so we make it an even 300. They price they are going on the resale market is fairly high and to find the right match to my UY will be tough I think. If you did buy direct do you mind me asking how much per point are they now?

pixiedust: Welcome Home!!! and Congratulations. VGC is a beautiful resort so enjoy your trip.

We wanted to go resale but ended up going direct. Although resale would have saved us about $3000 on 100 points we most likely would have not been able to use it for our upcoming trip to Disneyland. Due to the fact we are staying in a 1 bedroom (family of 5) suite going direct saved us $2400 on our current Disnyland hotel reservation. Disney gave us a 2011 allotment of pints that we were able to bank and use for our upcoming trip. So in the end buying direct only ended up costing us an addition $500. I figure we should end up closer to even by the time you factor in the cost of saved money on eating most Breakfast and Dinners in the unit.

As an FYI we were put on a wait list but it only to 4-5 weeks to get under contract

Congrats! We just made it through ROFR for 100 points at VGC. We love that place! :goodvibes

Sorry I did not say it before, but congratulations! I figured the pricing was around $130. We are going in the fall too but have used my in laws points to book at the regular GC hotel through the Disney collection because we could not get a room at the 7 month window they were already booked. We love Disneyland, we stayed at the GC for our honeymoon when CA and the hotel first opened and have gone another time since then. We are averaging every 4 years to LA so we figured a small 70 to 75 pt contact that we could bank and borrow every three years would give us enough for a few days in a one bedroom. We are going to see about doing the add on while on our Disney cruise in July to get the on board credit I have heard they offer, it may only be for the DVC properties not sold out though. A week is not necessary at DL as there is not nearly as much to do there as the world. Then we will enjoy a few days eating our way though our favorite LA restaurants. If you have any questions about Disneyland just ask. And again congratulations!

Thanks for the info. I grew up in LA and my parents currently live in San Diego. My family visits Disneyland every to everyother year while we are out there for Thanksgiving. We were intially looking at 150 points but would have had to finance a small chunk so decided against it. The 100 points is a great start for us and we might add on later. We also figured 3 years of banked points would get us a 1 bedroom in Hawaii (a suite at Alani is 10K for a week if we booked today). For a family of 5 DVC is one of the most cost effective ways to travel that I have found. As an individual who likes nicer resorts and doesn't want to be crapmped in a room a 1 bedroom villa is much more cost effective than a 1 bedroom suite at the hotel. We figured our payback at roughly 25 nights not including intangibles simply looking at todays dollars.

We are planning to go to aulani next year too and looked at the cost as we are a family of five too and saw it was 10k also. It was a no brainer for us to buy resale as we live in south fla and there are great prices on all the dvc resorts per point at the world. But to stay VGC the 11 mon window is a must.
