Ok, this may be a bore to read....sorry in advance. Let me start at the conclusion for those who want to cut to the chase and scram...we are HAPPY owners at SSR as of this morning. Thanks Ron Brumbaugh for all of your help.

Anyway, back to the real beginning of the story. We use to be owners at BWV (1999-2004). DH had a job change at Christmas time, 2003. Financially, things were let's say...uncertain. With sad hearts we sold our DVC in order to ease our financial crisis. Anyway, the last trip to WDW was May, 2003.

We decided that we would rent points and take a trip this spring. We found a terrific renter on the rent/trade board and set up this fabulous 10 day trip in a 1 bedroom at BWV for May. We announce to our DD's on Christmas morning, "we are going to WDW!!". Everyone is so excited!! We give Mr. Renter our deposit when we receive the confirmation in the mail.....all is great. End of January rolls around and our central heat/ac unit in our home takes a dive. How much to fix? "Better replace it" says the repairman...it's old. We find out this is going to cost twice the cost of the trip. We are 14 days away from our non-refundable cancellation policy in our contract with Mr. Renter. We decide we better cancel. We notify Mr. Renter and he promptly refunds our deposit...no problem. Thank you so much again....if you are reading this Mr. Renter. New heater goes in.

In the mean time, DH finds out that he won a 5 day vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, through his new company so at least we will get to do something. DH and I head to Mexico on Valentine's Day. We had a terrific time, beautiful place, but we talked the whole time about how much we miss our WDW and our DVC. We both agree that there is no place that we would rather vacation....some folks would ask "why" or "won't you get tired of it"....but I highly doubt it.

So we return home with visions of WDW dancing in our heads. We make a major decision to do a refinance on the house.......take out some equity and check into purchasing DVC once again. Thankfully, we had enough cash to pay for the heat/ac before the refinance. We have no other debt other than our home....no car loans, cc debt, etc. Anyway, that process is in the final stage already so we contact DVC to see what's going on.

We are assigned a guide, Ron Brumbaugh, great guy....very informative. This is last Saturday. He FedEx's us all the info. and on Monday I run across this thread on the Disneyland board about better incentives for buying at DL. We live in CA so I'm thinking.....hmmm......maybe I should try to get in on this. I post the "panic" post on this board on Tuesday morning and put a call into Ron. He checks on the promo to see if I would even qualify and it is for DL AP holders that have had there AP prior to Nov. 1, 2006. I don't qualify. Oh well, it was worth a try. In the mean time, the Fed Ex man delivers all the info. and I'm savoring the beautiful book and crunching numbers. I asked Ron if we would be able to book a stay at SSR for April 24-May 1 if we purchased. MS had already closed when I talked to Ron on the phone so he told me he would check in the morning and give me a call.

Wednesday morning I get the call that there's availability so I give him the go ahead for the purchase. We opted to buy SSR for the extra years and lower MF....not interested in AKV for our family. We got an initial 150 point contract and then did 2 add on contracts of 75 points each for a total of 300 points. October use year with points from 2006. Paying cash by running deposit and final payments though our Disney Rewards Visa for reward points.

He called me this morning, Thursday, and said that all had gone through and gave me my ID number. I hung up and called MS to confirm my ressie for a 1-bedroom at SSR for April 24-May 1. We are all set!! I'm so excited!!

I have missed my DVC so much. But, we had to do what we had to do. DH has been promoted since the job change in '03 and we are better off financially now then we were then....so now is the right time for us. We discussed resales at the BWV and BCV but our kids are almost adults now and our needs are different now. We like the location of SSR and we always rent a car and like the idea of being able to park in front of our unit not in a parking lot with a hike to the room. We stayed at OKW for most of our last visit in 2003 and we loved it. But the extra 12 years was a real big factor in our decision to purchase at SSR.

Anyway, thanks for reading....if you're still with me...I'm sure I'll be on here much more as it was a bit depressing for me for the past couple of years to come on and read about everyone's planned trips, etc.

A couple of questions. MS was not able to give me a PIN to access the website today...do you know how long that takes to get in the system? Also, how can I put the SSR photo/card thingy at the bottom of my screen? Thanks..........

Wow! Your guide is better than ours. We bought SSR yesterday, 160 points, and still have no ID number, no nothing. Our guide blamed it on over-load...of the system, not her.

I'm glad to hear you were able to get a reservation for a trip only 7 weeks away...

Thanks for all of the WELCOMES! It has been a drizzly, cold day here in northern California but I know that 7 weeks will fly by. Then we can soak up some warm Florida sun!!
:hourglass :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

What a wonderful story. I couldn't be happier for you. Welcome home!:)

Congratulations!!

We had to do a similar thing -- sell our DVC due to a job loss two years ago. Tonight we are filling out paperwork for a new (small) contract at SSR via The Timeshare Store. It will be perfect for dh and me -- we're beyond thrilled to get our DVC back, so I know just how you feel!! :goodvibes

WELCOME HOME AND WELCOME BACK!!! We are new to DVC and we also bought SSR and we also got 300 pts and we also have a UY of OCT. LOL

CONGRATS.
