My husband and I decided to go out for Valentines on the 13th since its always so crowded around here on Valentines Night. On our way out of our neighborhood (which is filled with one ways, roundabouts, and yield signs) a woman was too busy blabbing on her cell phone and did not yield (did not even slow down  ) and plowed right into my husband's side driver door.

Luckily we weren't hurt too bad or anything but our poor Jeep Grand Cherokee needs two new doors and a new paint job :(

It was then we found out that MN is a no fault state.....just grand

Sorry to hear about the accident, but I am glad that you all are okay!

Sorry about the accident but glad that you were both unhurt.

So sorry about your accident :( I am just glad that no one got hurt!

So sorry about your accident. Glad to hear you were not hurt.

That sucks! Does that mean your insurance will have to pay for it? Will the person even get a ticket?

I live in MA which is also a "no-fault" insurance state. However, if the police determine that it was the other driver's fault, your insurance will pay you to fix your car and then your insurance company will be reimbursed from the other driver's company. You would still be paying for your chosen deductible unless your policy has a waiver of deductible on it. My company recommended that I have it, it is an option, and @ less than $20 a yr, I felt it was necessary. Check your policy to see if waiver of ded. is on it. That may be an option in your state too.
Good luck.

TigerBear: Yes, that means that we pay our deductible, our rates go up....the whole bit  Perhaps I'm just bitter because it wasn't our fault  but I don't understand the point of this!

Randi: No fault state too huh? Thanks for the advice! We did not call the cops because we didn't think we needed to (nobody was hurt and we were not aware that MN was a no fault insurance state...we were previously from IL) so we are probably stuck with higher insurance rates and paying our deductible. However, I will inquire about the having that yearly fee to waive the deductible :teeth:

Sorry to hear about the accident.

I still think you could call the police dept and make a report though.....
