We cancelled our flights on Delta. The Customer service rep told me that I had to rebook another flight by 3/20/07 (We originally bought our tickets on 3/20/06.) She said I needed to book by March 20th but that I could fly up to 321 days later. Is this correct ? That would bring me into 2008

I paid $233 per ticket R/T When I asked her what my credit would be she said $466. Don't they charge you a fee to change the ressie ?

I'm not sure she knew what she was talking about.

I'd doubt that anybody here knows better than an official Delta rep. Why not call them back to check?

They charge a fee when you finally rebook.

The credit is $233 per ticket When you try to use it they then access the change fee for using it so you only have $183 to actually spend on airfare.

I always thought you had to fly by the expiration date on your credit so you might want to call back and verify that.

I believe that your travel must be completed within one year of purchase. (If I remember correctly, there are very important information-system-related reasons for this.) I would call the airline to check, but I believe you need to return home from your rebooked trip by March 20.

I thought this, too. But, I just cancelled my brother and SIL's tickets Friday and the rep said they had to purchase the new tickets by 1 year after I originally bought their tickets. The difference in answers scares me a bit because they won't travel by one year from the purchase date.

The problem when I call is I keep getting different answers.

First, I was told that I had to re-purchase my tickets by 3/20/07 (one year from original purchase) but that the latest I could fly was July 2007.

The other day when I finally called to cancel the lady told me that I had to re-purchase by 3/20/07 BUT that I had up to 321 days after that to fly.

Where can I get a straight answer ? She was very polite and extremely nice.

Just frustrated !

Maybe they have changed their policy a bit? We fly JetBlue and had a 180$ credit. We had to BOOK a flight within the year (a full year of day we requested refund) It didn't matter when the flight was as long as we booked it within 365 days.

I will need to call them again. I get a different answer each time. That's the part that is Frustrating. If I could book one year from the day we cancelled than that would be GREAT. Keeping fingers crossed !!!

Thanks Everyone for all your responses !!!

From Delta's website

I have a non-refundable ticket and will not be traveling. Can I obtain a refund?

No, however, effective August 21, 2003, if you're holding a nonrefundable ticket that allows changes, and travel is scheduled on or after August 21, 2003, you have one year from the ticket's original issue date to reschedule your travel without losing the full value of the ticket (less any applicable change fees).

It's one year from date of issue...hope this helps.

Thank you .

I remember, now, when this changed. It was when all the airlines increased their change fees (which had been token amounts previously). As long as you keep paying a change fee, you can have your credit "live on" indefinitely (though eaten away by that change fee each time).
