Back again. Pre trip part two of We came, we saw, we conquered
This one is a tad bit boring...
First a recap.
The cast:
Me-HaleyB around here, just Haley at home. 30 something. Likes to wear Disney clothing.
My Husband, Steve, also 30 something. Works for Apple. Helps Disney and Pixar with IT stuff. Wears his Mickey cap everyday.
My Princess, Sophia, six. She has inherited the Disney gene. Wears Disney clothing daily.
My younger son, Max, who is nine now. He loves the parks but will no longer wear Disney clothing items unless they glow in the dark.
My older son, Ryan. He is seventeen. He loves the parks and grew up in Disneyland. He has just crossed back into the willing to wear Disney clothing zone. Also it turns out a friend will be in WDW at the same time.
The big plan-
We will drive from Austin Texas. 17 hours or so according to a trusted source (the DIS boards). We do not have a huge car or any sort of onboard nonsense like a TV. My kids will entertain themselves the old fashioned way. The will look out the window and/or irritate each other.
We will then spend two nights at HIFS, because I want to see what it is like. We will follow this by a 7 night 8 day Dream Maker package at the brand new Pop Century. My kids fell nicely into the age range for the Visa kids play free. I am not one to pass up a deal. My oldest will have a Fun in the Sun pass and we have a second room only reservation for our second room. Booked with a nice code thanks to Mousesavers. That will be followed by two nights at AKL, room only with code. Then we will stay at HIFS on our last night. Yes that is four hotels in two weeks, not counting one night on the road each way. So make that six. And did I mention we follow our Dream Maker with a room only night at Pop? That is another check in/out. This is not an optimal plan. This is sort the way someone with ADD plans things. You will have to wait and see how it all works out.
We have 8 full days in the parks with no breaks. But that Dream Maker kids play free deal was too good to pass up. My oldest, Ryan, has a FITS pass so he can go in the parks from the first day at HIFS till the last day we are in town. My husband is excited about the Disney Quest thing and so I got him a single ticket so he can go with Ryan on the day we are at HIFS. I will hit the pool with the kids. Everyone will be happy.
Here is a copy of the plan, after I changed it about 200 times (if you post a plan to the DIS you will get lots of advice. I have added a few notes...
Sat-May 29-Drive and Drive some more ($40 room in Alabama via Priceline). ***Our plan is to leave early, but we are flexible people. We left at 10 am because my son had left our camera at a friends house and we were trying to recover it.
Sun- May 30th -Drive- Arrive at HIFS around 4pm. ****We made it around 5.
Mon-May 31st-HIFS_Ryan and Steve Disney Quest. Dinner at Beaches and cream (maybe). ****So glad I made them go here, this was a great meal. We parked at the Beach Club. I thought that this was on the Boardwalk so we walked from the Beach Club to the Boardwalk hotel. Asked about Beaches and Cream, and walked back. We must have walked right by it...
Tu-June 1st-Pop- PS for CRT at 9:40, tour MK all day. Leave by 6pm to unpack and reserve energy! Maybe swim.
Wed- Pop-EE at Epcot, PS-Storybook 10:20am-leave for rest at 2pm, rest at Typhoon Lagoon today. Another early night. Do Laundry tonight. ****Um, no- didnt work like that at all. Details in a future report.
Th- Pop-EE at MK, stay till 2. Park Hop to AK Eat at RFC-4pm PS. -Take car today. ***or not, the buses seem to go pretty quickly ...read ll about it in a future report.
Fri- Pop-MGM (not EE) in am, Star Wars weekend, Afternoon rest, (**Ha, yeah right) EPCOT for dinner in Morocco (counter) and Illuminations.
Sat-Pop- Sleep in, then go to Epcot for the day. PS 5:50pm- Coral Reef ****forgot to tell Sophia what sleeping in means
Sun-Pop- EE at MK, afternoon swim (***again, I dont know what I was thinking), MGM in PM unless we are already 'done' with MGM then maybe go to Epcot.
Mon-Pop-EE at AK Afternoon swim or nap (****yeah right, do we sense a pattern here?) Disney Quest.
Tu-Pop-LAST DAY- MGM, AK, or EPCOT (kids choice) in AM, MK for Spectro and Fireworks. Leave stroller with Guest services.
Wed June 9th- AKL- Pool and relax day
Th- AKL- More pool and Dinner at Boma.
Fri- HIFS- PS at Chef Mickeys 10:50
Sat- Drive and Drive some more
Sun -Drive till we get home.
Okay so I said I was going to tell you our plan. Did you think I was kidding?
So in the weeks before our trip I order lots of vouchers from Hotwire, buy all sorts of stuff because we might want it (band aids and Gold bond powder and pens and paper and peanuts and sun block and lip sun block and a new back pack and mole skin and vitamins and ponchos...). It never really crosses my mind that we are going to have to also bring things like clothing and shoes on this trip. I may be slightly over prepared. How ever if we get snowed in for a week we are all set.
As the big day approaches I find myself spending more time reading websites than actually getting ready to go. I also grossly underestimate how many hours I will be spending at my kids school the last week. Possibly it was a bad idea to plan this trip so close to school letting out.
It is the night before we leave. I am packing. I am doing laundry. I am cleaning bathrooms (because they have to be clean when we leave). Clothing, check. Shoes, check, Stuff, check check check. Maybe I have too much stuff? I wonder how we are going to fit this in the car? Camera... where is my camera? You know the new digital camera I bought for this trip. You left it where? Well let's call him. What??? you don't want to call your friend at 3 am? Kids these days. Okay I am not going to get mad at Ryan. Sure he never left his ipod anywhere, ever. Sure he knows I bought this camera for this trip. But what is the point. We will call his buddy in the morning and pick it up on the way out. As it is currently 3 am I doubt we are going to be on the road by 6.
We take our 3 suitcases and two rubbermaid tins downstairs. We'll load things in the morning.
