We bought our first house yesterday!!

My DW and I bought our first house yesterday. It's a brand new townhouse in hagerstown, maryland overlooking the park. 3 Finished levels and it's a castle compared to our small apartment now.

Obviously our money is going to be tighter but we didn't buy anything that we could not afford. We are so excited. We will move in late Feb when construction is complete.

Any advice for new homeowners

Here's my piece of advise. Paint before you move in. Give yourself at least 2 days to get your main rooms painted before you start moving in. If you don't - it literally will be years before you get around to doing it afterwards

Congrats and welcome to the townhouse club! Our first also, only 2.5 years ago. We found a great deal only a block from where we were renting. It has enough of a tiny little yard that we could finaly get a puppy. We got her from adopt-a-pet and later found out she was born on the day we had the closing.


Keep an eye on the construction. walk through others that finish before yours, it may help noticing any flaws in your unit when you fill out your owner repair punch list. You have to catch most things quickly to get them fixed by the builder for free.
