We Be Trippin': The Great DIS-nee Road Trip

Dis Geeks -- I was crossing my fingers hoping that you weren't going to one of the places I picked out! I already wrote up everything and got pictures and then said, shoot, I should have asked you first.

So yes, I recommend to those in same city, you might want to coordinate!:thumbsup2

Ugggggh! (I'm so sorry, Marshay! :flower3: That's maddening!)

Since it sounds like you've been there, though, I think you should still go ahead and post what you have. ('Cuz you have the benefit of helpful, first-hand insights! KWIM?) :thumbsup2

The espionage thing...........well..........
He would have been right there as well.

Then again...
Should I be looking over my shoulder???.......Doc???.........Mrs D???...:scared1:

Bwahahahahahaha! ;) (I'm harmless! .... Really!!! ::yes:: )

DISgeeks and Mr. DISgeeks: :worship: :worship: :worship:
I feel like I just took a vacation! In fact I want to drop everything and come see it for myself. Thanks for the snacks and the fantastic diner dinner. If you want a career in the travel industry, it's yours for the taking.
Thanks for a fantabulous (if intimidating) start to our road trip.

Don't worry HMF - I will love seeing Massachusetts through your eyes.

Good Call :cool1:

Also, Earth Day was the other day and I thought that we should invest in some of those reusable grocery bags since we will be buying a lot of snacks along the way,

Here it is and if you like it then vote each day and it might become a reality. Not only would we have the CMO pins and Lime Green Mickeys, but you can add a BigThunderMtn tote bag to the DISboard member identifiers. :lmao:

Click the image to view what the bag would look like with the pic on it.
(Unfortunately I couldn't do anything Disney because it it copyrighted material.)

Great bag! And I too am glad to have something to vote for.

Before I call it a night, I wanted to add that BTM's design is being voted on daily by the 3g&g household!

must vote......vote......must vote.......voting is gooooood.... vote......

Guess my previous statement was not clear -- you did NOT pick any of the places that I have for our Road Trip.:thumbsup2 I meant to ask you but then totally forgot with my folks in town.

[Whew!] That's good! :thumbsup2

I like nuts. Makes me feel less self-conscious... :thumbsup2

I will admit that I just randomly clicked on this thread in a desperate attempt to foil my own plans to go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight. When I find out I was still online when I should have been sleeping I am not going to be happy.

Huh? :confused3

Anyways... I will openly confess to having tried to read through your earlier threads, but let's face it - I am not feeling very attentive or ambitious right about now. Cause 'prolific' does not even seem to begin to describe it... :faint:

I love the virtual road trip idea!
I am a total road-trip girl. My second-favorite kind of trip (behind Disney of course)... and the more obscure the destination, the better. I am one of those people who believe there really is something to see anywhere you are! And the more offbeat, the better...

Okay.
So.. Hi! :tilt:

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Welcome, PictureJumpr! :wave2:

I'm so glad you decided to join us! (... And that maybe our posts have amused you somehow! ;) )

And, yeah!, "prolific" might be one word to describe the DIS-nee Family's posting frenzy these past few months!! :faint:

We hope you'll stick around awhile!

As a Side Note: 'Ya know: I sort of wonder how many other DISers suffer from insomnia, have "unconventional" sleep patterns or simply love to burn the "midnight oil." Here it is 2:35 a.m., and I'm still hooked...

I blame my sleeping habits on the pattern from college which I have not yet overcome....

The fact that I have been out of school for almost ten years, well, that is completely irrelevant. :snooty:

Besides, it is an hour earlier here so I'm good :thumbsup2

I hear 'ya!

[Okay, this truly is my last post! ... I'm off to bed.]

Welcome PictureJumper!

DisGeeks (both of you) -- wonderful job!!! I'm already excited to visit Brookside this Christmas and Glen Echo Park.

HMF -- woo hoo!! Can't wait for Taunton!

Well good morning DISfamily! And welcome to glittering and glamorous Taunton, Massachusetts! Here is the official town website: City of Taunton

Taunton is a medium sized city when compared to others in the state, it has a great advantage for seeing the sites as it is located just 30 minutes south of Boston, 35 minutes from Cape Cod, and 25 minutes from Providence, RI. Taunton is known in the area as the "Silver City".... this is because years ago there were several silver processing plants located in a section of the city known as "Weir Village". Which is now home to abandoned silver processing plants and a seedy sports bar, its not really the area of town you want to be in after dark..... if you catch my drift

The main road through Taunton is Route 44 and it is lined with huge mansion style houses...... that have now been split up to accomodate several apartments........ classy.

As there isn't much to see or do in Taunton.... we won't be staying here for very long. So hang on kids.... now that you are in my town we will be visiting Providence, Boston, Cape Cod, and a few surprises along the way!

Alright everyone..... welcome to one of my favorite cities..... Providence, Rhode Island!

Providence is a great city filled with history, well known colleges, great restaurants, cool shopping, and plenty to see and do.

We start our tour at Waterplace Park:

Waterplace park is in the heart of downtown, known to locals as "DownCity", it sits right on the bank of Woonasquatucket River which runs right through Providence and out to the ocean. It is a nice place for a stroll as it stretches about 3/4 of a mile from Providence Place Mall almost all the way out to the hurricane barrier near the ocean.

I've arranged for us to have lunch at one of my favorite restaurants located in the "East Side". The East Side is home to most of the colleges and features and eclectic mix of dining, shopping, antique stores, and coffee houses. We are going to have lunch at "the Rue", feel free to take a glance at the menu... everything is delicious: The Rue

After you can take a walk through the East Side and do some shopping or grab a cup of coffee. Two of the more popular streets are Thayer St:

And Wickenden St:

Now that we have re-grouped after lunch we are headed to Roger Williams Park & Zoo.... a great zoo located just outside of Providence.

Roger Williams Park & Zoo

You can walk the grounds of the park, go visit the animals at the zoo, or rent a swan paddle boat and ride around on the lake.

Next up we will be heading to Newport, Rhode Island.... Newport is home to some of the most amazing mansions that you will ever see! Here is the most famous of them all.... the Breakers Mansion:

First we will visit the outside of the mansions by taking a stroll on the famed "Cliff Walk".... it is as it sounds, a sidwalk perched on the edge of a cliff that goes behind the mansions:

After the cliff walk.... feel free to take a tour of any of the mansions, you can find information here: Newport Mansions

Headed back into Providence as the sun starts to set, we head back to Waterplace Park to enjoy a treat as tonight is Waterfire! What is Waterfire you ask? On select nights during the year they light fires in floating cauldrons all along the river, there are performances by local artists, food stands, and booths from local jewlery makers.

Here is one of the performers known as the "Fire Man":

So sit back, relax, and enjoy Waterfire:

If Waterfire isn't your thing, feel free to visit Providence Place Mall before we depart from Providence:

Thanks for the warm welcome, HMFan! :goodvibes

What a lovely area! (...Well, the stuff that you've shown us anyway! Thanks for sparing us the "seedier" parts of Taunton! ;) )

I've never visited Providence, so this should be fun!

La Rue sounds terrific! I'll be having the spinach & mushroom filled raviolis and a small spring greens salad for lunch.

I'm sure that AnnDisneyFan will approve of the superb food choice! (Where is Ann, btw? ... I guess she's really busy with the new business...)
