We are just back from a quick six day eating extravaganza. I have never eaten so much food in less than a week! It sure is a good thing we did a ton of walking, or my husband would have had to roll me back to New York! Unfortunately, I don’t have pictures. I know, I know, what was I thinking??? I wasn’t! All that delicious food came to our table and we just chowed down! I’ll do my best to give fabulously detailed descriptions so that you can picture everything. A little imaginative food porn. Here’s where we ate…

Flame Tree BBQ (lunch)
Boma (Dinner)
Somerfest (Lunch)
Mama Melrose (Fantasmic Package)
Sunshine Seasons (Breakfast)
Sci-Fi Dine In (Lunch)
Liberty Tree Tavern (Dinner)
Wolfgang Puck Express (Lunch)
Les Chef de France (Dinner)
Le Cellier (Lunch)
Cosmic Rays (Dinner)

Day 1, coming up tomorrow morning... Flame Tree BBQ and Boma!

Sounds like a fantastically yummy trip! I can't wait for the reviews! popcorn::

Excellent, looking forward to hearing all about it.

Here we go!!

As soon as we checked in, we headed to Animal Kingdom. We were starving and headed straight to Flame Tree BBQ. Both Josh and I had the ribs, beans and corn bread. Loved the ribs, I really liked that we could put the BBQ sauce on ourselves, so it wasn’t too messy. Beans were just okay, a little crunchy. The corn bread was fantastic! It was so moist! For desert I had key lime pie. Did not like that one bit. Not sure why, it’s one of my favorite desserts, but it was not good. Josh had some kind of very chocolatey, gooey, yummy cake. Very, very good. We would definitely eat here again.

Later that night we had reservations for Boma. I had heard soooo much about this restaurant, I couldn’t wait to try it. Josh on the other had was a bit more skeptical. He has no problem eating rattlesnake or kangaroo, but wasn’t so sure about African inspired food. Go figure! We got there much earlier than I thought and checked in about 25 minutes early. After a two or three minute wait we were seated. I absolutely loved it. I would have eaten there again if possible. The hummus was to die for, the salads were so flavorful. I especially loved the pasta salad. The only soup I tried was a creamy one with potatoes and bacon. YUM! I could have eaten bowls and bowls of this. Obviously, not so African, but still delicious. I tried just about everything and only found a couple things I didn’t care for too much. I could not wait to try a zebra dome. You know, after all the hype, I thought they were just okay. I liked the fruit tarts and the chocolate mousse much more. And the wine, how could I forget the wine?? Love South Africa wine! Can’t tell you what I had, but those three glasses went down quite well! I highly recommend this restaurant. My husband thought it was just okay. The service at Boma was great. I really can’t wait to go back!

Next up.... Day 2 Lunch at Sommerfest at EPCOT and Mama Melrose at Hollywood Studios

Thanks for the great Boma review, we love the breakfast there so I cannot wait to try dinner in Oct. We love Flame Tree and it has been a long time since we ate there...going to have lunch there one day too...yummy!

Day 2

We started a very rainy day at EPCOT. By lunch time it had cleared up a bit and we were hungry! When we were making reservations, Josh wanted to eat at Biergarten, but I didn’t so we compromised and agreed to eat in Germany at the counter service place Sommerfest. I did not like it at all, but Josh loved it. I had a frankfurter with sauerkraut and Josh had bradwurst with sauerkraut. I couldn’t even eat my hot dog thing, it was really awful. For desert I had black forest cake, it was okay, kind of dry. Josh had an apple strudel. Again, he loved it. I think you might see a pattern here. I’m a little picky, he’s not.

Later that day we headed over to DHS and had an early reservation for Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic Package. With the package we were able to get an appetizer, entrée and dessert. Josh ordered mozzarella and tomatoes- it was sooo good! I had the artisan breads and spreads. It was also very good. For dinner I had the pork tenderloin marsala with mushroom risotto. The pork was great, but the risotto was not so great. Josh had wood grilled chicken. That was very good. For dessert he had tiramisu and I had warm truffle chocolate cake. The cake was amazing, definitely the best part of the meal for me. Josh really like the tiramisu too. The service here was out of this world. The waiter we had was so attentive. Definitely the best service we had all week.

Next up… Sunshine Seasons for breakfast, Sci-Fi Dine In for lunch and Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner.

Ooh I cannot wait for your Sci Fi review, DH insisted on this one for lunch

We'll be at Mama Melrose Monday night--I think I'm trying that warm truffle chocolate cake!!!!!!!!!!!! :lovestruc

Day 3 Breakfast at Sunshine Seasons, Lunch at Sci-Fi Dine In, Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern

Oh boy, we ate a ton today!! We went back to Epcot and ate breakfast at Sunshine Seasons after a few rides. Josh had a breakfast platter with eggs, bacon, potatoes and a biscuit. He liked most of it but thought it was a little bland. I had a bowl of fruit and a cinnamon bun. Yum! I fell in love with cinnamon buns throughout the rest of this trip. By the way, I think the best one I had was at Starring Rolls at DHS.

Later on we hopped over to DHS for lunch at Sci-Fi Dine In. I was very unsure about eating here since I had read so many negative reviews. I love the atmosphere- what a cool restaurant! We both had a burger and fries and Josh had a milkshake. Well, let me tell you that that was one fantastic burger! Wow! I had a little bit of the chocolate milkshake too…. I wish I had ordered one for myself! I guess if you go here and stick to something basic like burgers and fries, you’ll be okay. I would definitely go back here again. Can’t remember anything about the service, so it must have been okay. Here’s a pic from Sci-Fi…

We headed to MK for the first time this week right around dinner time. Just as we got off the monorail it started pouring (again). We had time to don our beautiful poncho’s and hit Haunted Mansion before eating. I just love that ride. After that we checked in at Liberty Tree Tavern. I haven’t been to a character meal since I was little. I was expecting a very loud, crazy dinner with kids running wild all over the place. I was so wrong! It definitely was on the louder side, but only because it was busy. It really was a great meal. First we had salad with an amazing strawberry dressing and the rolls- oh yum! They were warm and soft and the butter was sweet, maybe honey butter? Then we had ham with a mustard type sauce on it, turkey and pot roast. All of the meats were very good. There was also stuffing (weird texture, kind of grainy), green beans (very good) and mac and cheese. I didn’t have any of that, but Josh thought it was okay. Dessert was warm apple cobbler and ice cream. This was super! We both loved dessert. It was really fun to have to characters come around. Here’ s a couple pics…

Day 4 Wolfgang Puck Express at DTD and Le Chefs de France at Epcot

We slept in a little today then went to Animal Kingdom to do everything else we couldn’t get to on our first day. After going on Everest (scariest ride of my life, I’m not a roller coaster fan), we left go do some shopping and have lunch at Downtown Disney. We had heard great things about Wolfgang Puck Express so that’s where we went. I had a chicken pesto sandwich that came with parmesan chips. It was very delicious, but HUGE! I could barely finish half of it. I also had a chocolate chip cookie (of course I had room to finish that). Josh had some kind of pasta with chicken and a creamy sauce. His came with a salad and he had crème brulee. He loved all of it. I had a bite of the pasta- it was really good!

Later on we went back to Epcot for dinner at Chefs de France. I had read mixed reviews on this restaurant, but went in being optimistic. I don’t think I should have been so optimistic. We were seated quickly and our server quickly took our drink order and then it went downhill. Way downhill. It took about 15 minutes for the server to get our drinks, then he disappeared for another 10 minutes before he took our appetizer and entrée order. We had the cheese plate for an appetizer. Did you know that it doesn’t come with crackers or anything? Just hunks of cheese. On a plate. Okay, so I know I don’t eat in French restaurants often (or ever) but thought there would be something to go with the big wedges of cheese! Guess not. Weird. Sebastian, our server said he would be right back to tell us what the different cheese were, but we didn’t see him for another half-hour. So we picked at the cheese a little bit, not really loving any of them. When he came back eventually, he brought our entrées. We never did find out what kind of cheeses were on the plate. While he was setting our meals down he spent the time he was at our table talking to the French people at the table next to us. I guess they were more interesting since they spoke his language. I had a filet and Josh had seared tuna. Neither of us loved our meals. There was a big lack of flavor. Sebastian didn’t come back to our table for another 40 minutes. He came back to the table next to us several times, each time we would ask him for dessert menus etc… and he kept forgetting. Finally he came back, took our plates, brought dessert menus, but disappeared again! I don’t know how much longer we were sitting there, but we did in the end get dessert. It was just okay. It actually may have been very good, but I was just so put off by sitting there for such a long time and having such a terrible meal I wasn’t really in the mood to enjoy anything at that point. IllumiNations was starting then and at that point we had been there for just under 3 hours. Talk about a waste of time! We had to get a little angry to finally get the waiter to bring our check then he stood over my husband as he wrote down the tip! Ugh. Rude. Josh felt like he had to give him a decent tip since he was standing over him watching, but if it had been me writing it, I wouldn’t have. All in all, awful meal, awful service. Definitely would not go back here. This was truly our only bad experience, not so terrible considering all the places we ate at.

Not to worry though…a great meal at Le Cellier coming up next! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the reviews of Sci-Fi and Chefs de France! I'm on the fence about those 2 places. It sounds like Chefs is hit or miss. The food may be good but then you get bad service (seriously, 1/2 hour without your server even checking in on you is bad. Now he said he was going to be right back and even THEN didn't come back for 1/2 hour  )

Even so, we're going to try Chefs and Sci-fi our next trip. Hopefully it won't take 3 hours though. I'd be soooooooooo angry! I'm not one to be very patient anyway, still working on that...:guilty:

Keep those reviews coming!

Day 5

We woke up to another beautiful sunny day and headed to Epcot to see the last few things we hadn’t gotten to yet. We had reservations for Le Cellier 1:05. We arrived a few minutes early and found a ton of people waiting. We waited about a half hour before being seated. I didn’t mind though, at that point it was boiling hot outside and the air conditioning felt wonderful. We were seated next to a family that was giving our waiter such a hard time. I really felt bad for him. By the time he got to us he was so flustered. It took a long time to get our drinks and bread, but that pretzel bread made it totally worth it. Wow, was that fabulous!!! I really would like to make that at home! We ordered the cheddar cheese soup- another WOW!! For our entrées we both had the mushroom filet and substituted cream cheese mashed potatoes for the risotto. It was out of this world! This meal was by far my favorite. I can definitely see what all the hype was about! For dessert I had the chocolate whiskey cake and Josh had maple crème brulee. We both loved them. I can’t wait to go back to this restaurant! The only down side to Le Cellier was how loud it was. There were two families sitting near us with babies. One baby cried through the meal and the other baby screamed. I was shocked that neither family took the baby out of the dining room until he/she calmed down. From the looks on the faces of other families around us, it seemed that these families were on the nerves of everyone. I expect a certain amount of noise and craziness at Disney, I know how hard it is to eat in a restaurant with little ones, but this was just unreal. Overall though, a fantastic lunch. I can’t say enough great things about the food and service here. If you haven’t been here yet, you have to try it!

Later on we went back to MK for our last night. After such a huge lunch, we weren’t hungry until after 9. We decided to go to Cosmic Rays for our last quick service. I love it there. I know it’s just burgers and fries, but the burgers are always so yummy! We sat outside looking at the castle- so nice! As we left that night we stopped off at Main Street Bakery to pick up something for breakfast and to use our last few snack credits.

A few final thoughts…

All in all, we had great dining experiences at WDW. Had we not been on the dining plan, we never would have tried that many places. On the other hand though, it really was a ton of food. I feel like I wasted a lot of it. I think that when we go back we’ll still eat at our favorite restaurants, Boma and Le Cellier, but I don’t think we’ll do the dining plan. With such a short trip, I felt like it was taking a lot of time out of the parks every single day to do a table service. I personally would rather do it just a few times during a trip like this.

Thanks for reading! I hope some of my reviews help some of you!
