We are sorry but you cant cook and even if you could! (Gingerbread house contest)

I'm truly sorry to those of you who missed out. I wish they had announced it in advance so people could've planned for it.

HalloweenQueen, I'm another long-time player. Started playing in November 2005. I participated in the Space Mountain competition but none of the other ones. I thought I would share my perspective with you on all of this. You said that:
It is obvious that those who knew there was limited registration in the past would have an advantage.

My opinion is those of us who knew there was a limit in the past were not at an obvious advantage, not at all. As has been explained, we had no way of knowing how things would be done this time, whether it would be teams or individual, multiple rooms or single rooms, or limits or not. I read the info. here on the DIS and rushed to sign up, followed by my parents. The explanation of this in the newsletter said it was limited to 2,000 correct entries. That is how we all found out there was a limit and we needed to sign up right then, not based on past knowledge. Once we read that, that was the info. we needed to know. As has been explained, registration has never been this way; we've never been told about it and then had the registration start so quickly after.

I agree with monkey; the only people having an advantage were the people who read the DIS or similar sites and happened to see the info. posted in time. By advantage I mean the average player probably doesn't belong to a site and wouldn't have known if not for being lucky enough to check the newsletter at the right time or have a friend tell them. I'm sorry you feel no one answered your questions; if I had seen you asking, I would have told you about the prizes I remember from the Space contest. I do find though that if I can't seem to get a question answered in a timely matter, I resort to the search feature. If you feel you're left in the dark again about something, that should be very helpful to you as there are tons of threads about past VMK events and such on here.

I do see where your coming from and understand your disappointment, but I just politely disagree with the thought that we were at an obvious advantage.

Wow, I never intended to accuse anyone in particular here on the board. I hop from many VMK sites and discussed my experience in general.

I just thought it was interesting that no one would tell me about past prizes or the way a contest was run. It is obvious that those who knew there was limited registration in the past would have an advantage.
I get that you're upset. But you continue to make statements like this, which are accusatory. Just because they are not directed at "anyone in particular" doesn't make them OK.

From the info that hdmonkey posted, there was a 200 team limit in the Waterslide competition. And there wasn't any limit on the number of registrations for the individual Space Ride comp. (As a result, judging went on a day or two longer than VMK intially planned.)

So which "limit" do you feel you should have been told about? Neither one ended up being relevant to the current competition.

As has been said time & time again in this thread: NONE of us knew what way, shape or form this particular competition would take. In fact, we still don't know all that much -- just what we've read in the newsletter.

I stand corrected. Thanks for your point of view. :)

I would like you to know, that seeing how excited you were to participate and then feeling let down was enough reason for me to take a couple of slaps.

This part no longer addressed to Halloweenqueen

Having said that, I believe Pete is right.

I would like to leave this thread open, because I think sometimes it's nice to be able to scream! It will be closed if anyone besides me takes any further heat in this thread ;)

When I started playing VMK again this month and saw the new pieces, I was thinking that it would be a cool idea if there was a contest organized, I told that to one of my friends who told me to contact VMK, well I did not have to do it, since VMK had the same idea as me and they posted that they were organizing a contest. (I am not telling that VMK took my idea, I am telling that I was happy because finally, one of my dreams in VMK came true!)

I was more than happy so I really started to think of the best idea I could have and worked to gather credits.

I waited for the day that they would announce the day that we could start to register for the contest. That day came yesterday but ... When did they start the opening of the registrations? The day they announced they would start to open them and not at the opening of VMK. Do they really think that everyone is a no life, no sleep and watching the VMK homepage all the time until when the registrations are opened? All I wanted was something fair, something were everyone had a real chance to be able to register even if it is limited. Something like this : VMK announced the opening of the registrations the day before the registrations start and the registrations were opened and at the opening of VMK..

Key:
I was so very sorry to hear the 8 hour (right?) time zone difference along with real life did not allow you and so many others to enter a contest in which you really wanted to participate. :grouphug: Big Hugs my friend. :grouphug: I know from our conversations when the new pieces came out how very excited you were about building something special. :grouphug:

I learned of the VMK contest and ride a thon from a friend during my WDW vacation. No chance of an entry for me.

DisBoards:
Thanks for opening your own contest for all members. I'm hoping to find some time to read the rules and build before your judging starts.

To the players that are in either contest...Good Luck!

I dont think it was a matter of "being unfriendly" although some would certainly take it that far (dreams month)

All you had to do was find a veteran player and ask them to
"explain past aspects of the contest".

All the contests/competitions require guesswork/skill.
You either guess right or you guess wrong.
The last competition was capped at 2000 entries, so most people felt it safe to assume the gingerbread house limit would be as well. No one knew for sure that it would be a limited number but it was a safe bet.

But like i said guess work...
they started releasing a few things with out any warning, or with very little notice. And the NPC's were warning us to. Its all based on speculation... just like trading.

Who are you talking to, if it is to me then Ive never said that it was unfriendly, nor that anyone was unfriendly, there is a difference between being unfriendly and being unfair .. Tell me why when I "wake up" last time I saw the new stuff about the presents ? and why there was nothing when I wake up about the competition last monday .. But then again, I am now SO over it, VMK is VMK and it will forever stay VMK but they could think about the fact that they are still a promotional game ..
