I asked Gwendolyn the other day if she had heard from you... she knows when someone orders by internet...she told me no...you must have right after that...
Thank you! for supporting her! told her she needed a real job she was in the hole with them for over $400 (she had preordered things she thought people would want :headache: )told her she needed to get ahead before she just jumped in...right idea just too soon...

Dayne sent a text I guess about an hour ago (maybe a little more) saying he was about 30 min from the grandparents house....so he should be there! just sent a text before I got back on here!

BTW: I only eat oysters fried (I have tried them charbroiled--they have a good flavor if done right; but not my favorite--I have also tried them raw but sitting in garlic butter that was ok). Daddy took some shrimp out of the freezer so we are having shrimp too!

:wave2:

I could buy some stuff she already has if she wants to send me a list.

Glad Dayne is ok. A mother's job of worry never leaves. No matter what the age.

Lucky you for dinner. I bet I get a salami sandwich. We might go to the trough (golden corral) tomorrow night. The boys love it.

Connie, I can't stand oysters cooked at all. The only way I will eat them is raw. I'm glad Dayne is OK. I worry about my kids everytime they walk out the door :guilty:.

THANKS CONNIE

Good morning Connie. Hope everything is well with you. We have sunshine today. And yesterday. So enjoying the pretty weather. Short week for me. Today and tomorrow is it for me. I hope Peter Pan's package arrives before we leave so I can send it to him to enjoy. I can't believe you had not made gumbo before now. I thought that was a staple in LA. I don't particularly like it so I've never attempted it. I do have a wonderful recipe for red beans and rice. It's an all day cooker one given to my by a lady from Mobile many years ago. It is one of our favs but I have to be in the mood since it takes so long.

Have a great day.

Good morning! Ginny
We have a week of beautiful weather...yesterday was gloomy but today is beautiful!

I had made it once and it was not good:sad2: I think my mom makes it sooooo much that I was just not interested. My problem is I want to make it like a resturant we go to and will have to keep trying it...I really think I had too much liquid in it and I did not let my roux get dark enough!!! But, it did taste good; should really be good today (they always taste better the next day)... Dayne gave it a reluctant thumbs up...he said it was good but not as good as Nana's (that is soooo funny--they are so use to eating hers that I don't think anyone's will compare for a while)...but, Gwendolyn & Ashton liked it...so, I guess it was alot like hers. I really wanted to hear how others put their together; Gumbo is like a finger print EVERY ONE makes theirs different. I have heard of some people putting luncheon meat in their  I like chicken, sausage, shrimp, crab that is about it; okra is good too; but, I won't be adding that one to mine.

I can cook alot of different beans (seven bean soup, black eyed peas, white beans, learning on the butter beans) but I DO NOT COOK red beans( I have done the slow cooker and on the stove top--to speed it up soak your beans overnight)...Danny and Dayne love "Blue runner" beans in a can...once you add an onion, and either sausage or chili you can beat them. I just can not get mine to cream like theirs so we just use those (no other can bean is the same--and I do not like white beans or BEpeas by anyone). The crazy thing about my gumbo is that I can make a really good stew and it is basically the same thing

I'm getting humgry sitting here talking about food--I was just talking meat and potatoes with Kimmy on Mel's thread :rotfl:

Have a wonderful day! it is just Peter Pan and I all week :yay: (but, I know we will miss her by the end of the week)
:wave2:

My family likes the brown (pinto) beans except for Tim and I and we like white beans or navy beans (they are a little smaller) I always wash my dry beans really good then soak them overnight before cooking. When cooking the brown ones about 30 min before I serve them I add a 1/4 cup brown sugar. With the white ones 1/4 cup white sugar. For some reason it tends to make the juice thicken a little. When cooking in the crockpot I add a lot less water cause it doesn't boil down as it should.

One funny story. Many years ago when Don worked nights I was driving home from work to make the kid switch off and when I turned on my street I could smell something had burned. (we lived clear on the other end of a 2 block street). The closer I got the worse it got. I knew it had to be my house. I walked in to my kitchen and there were beans everywhere, on the ceiling, all over the floor, counters and stove. Don had put beans in the pressure cooker so they could be done to take to work and he fell asleep. The girls were napping too, they were about 3 & 5. Took me forever to clean up that mess. I still have the same pressure cooker. I did have to buy a new gasket and top jiggler. It took a long time to get rid of that odor. That many years ago they didn't have the stuff they have now for odor removal. I now laugh. Then not so much.

Peter Pan will be ready to have Tink back next week. You two enjoy yourselves.

I hope Dayne is having a good visit.

Dayne came home last night...said it was awlright! they went hunting and Danny & I did not let him take a shotgun to go hunting with...(too lazy to complete the hunters safety course) so the poor baby had to just walk along...anyway the kid spent a fortune on food in just two days...told him he will not be able to do that when he goes on his Sr trip! can't afford that kinda of money on food in Disney

He really wants to go to Disney for his sr trip...I have been really trying to talk him into a cruise...

BTW we may not be doing the beach for a week in June; some friends want to do a cruise and Danny said he could do that instead of the beach (Gwendolyn & Dayne will be disappointed--need to put this on paper and check on how to make everyone happy).
Also, need to price some cruise deals--I always heard June was hot in the Caribbean. The same set of friends are planning to do Disney the first week of Dec 2010 so Danny said he may want to push back a week...but, I really don't think I want to do that. They are traveling with her family and I do not want to infringe on that maybe an overlap might be the key to that one (with a one day meet up).

A day or two overlap for a meet up is a great idea Connie. Sounds like you have lots of research to do. What fun!! I love looking up and learning about things I haven't tried before. I guess that's where my addiction to all things Disney comes from. There's always something new opening, something new to eat, etc.

Prices on cruises go way up end of May thru July first of August. By end of Aug thru Dec. they are pretty cheap. Carnival has the biggest rooms of the lines and are normally the cheapest. It is cheaper to go out Mobile than NO but I love the NO port. There is nothing to do at the Mobile port while you wait. We are kinda looking at the Triumph to Key West, Bahamas and somewhere else (I can't remember). I'm not sure when either. Don cannot commit. But I could have him commited then go anytime I want. :)

WOW Connie it looks like you have a lot of planning to do, Dayne's Sr trip, your summer trip and the Nov/Dec trip. You are going to be one busy lady :surfweb::surfweb::surfweb:. I have to say though I envy you. I love planning trips :yay:.

My package for Peter Pan arrived today so I will overnight it in the morning to you. I so hope he enjoys it.

Thank you!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! waiting for Dayne to bring home my car (his car is finally finished; but, he needs to tweak a few things)...Ashton & I have to go in search of shrimp and crabmeat (easy to find; just want a good price- )...waiting to hear if Danny's mom has a turkey this year or not; may have to go find a small turkey too!

:wave2:

Morning Connie,

You've got a lot on your plate....almost literally.....since you've got a lot of cooking to do and a lot of planning to do.

How many people will be going on the Senior trip? Enough for a grand gathering?

Thank you!

Yummy. Shrimp and crabmeat. Love it. I know Sandi is doing a turkey. And now it is not just the three of us but Tim's bro and sis in law plus daughter, son in law and granddaughter. And I think Aust is taking a friend. She has a big house with one table seating 10 and another 8 so that won't be a problem. But she has to work on Friday. Poor dear. I bet I do a lot of clean up. I think I'll go to Sams and get desserts to take.

We will be driving all day tomorrow but you all have a great day. I do get email updates on my phone so let me know if the 'package' arrives safely.

Hi! Lisa

we don't have a count yet! I do know of three def and two maybes...told him he had to have four or eight :lmao: easier to figure the split in cost  and cheaper for them! Hoping that the /7 deal will be exended to April and May soon. Don't know if they want to go for their new spring break (we always have the week of Easter off/this year they have the last week of APRIL off) or the week of graduation
(they graduate Monday May 17)

Have a safe drive and a wonderful time with Sandi and gang!!! I love the carrot cake, red velvet, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, can you tell I love just about all their sweets!

Mrs. Eva and Denise usually take care of that...they rarely want us to bring anything which really hurts my feelings...I think they believe that I bring stuff to my mom's (my mom and dad do not want me to bring anything either--but, I will have Christmas dinner by my house with them--so to me it is a swap off).

Happy thanksgiving! enjoy!!!

We got a new Sam's catalog at work today and they have this chocolate looking thing I'm going to check out.

We do Christmas dinner on the 20th of Dec and have my brothers, sis in law, Don's parents, his bro, my mom if she will come and then the 6 of us. Don makes the best carrot cake in the world and Mike makes delish pies. So that is when I get to buy and cook everything else.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your house also.

So, spoke to MIL tonight...she is preparing Gumbo, cornbread dressing; SIL is baking pies; I'm preparing two casserole's and now a turkey (SURPISE!!! ) MIL said that we had our meat dish in the gumbo...:confused3 good thing I bought that small turkey today...now do I thaw it in the sink over night (I know that is not how you should do it--but, I want to cook it tomorrow)...may go soak it in a brine tonight in the sink (bad me)

best part I did not even tell MIL about the turkey; so, it will be a surprise hope SIL does not think along the same line as me...:rotfl:

eveyone have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!!!
 Connie
