I begged dh to go to the tour while we were at WDW this week. I wanted him to see what it was all about hoping that one day we could look into it and so that he'd know what I was talking about when I said DVC. He agreed to do the tour since I promised him it was no pressure. We took the kids who played in the clubhouse and we met with a sales rep. We had ressies for Teppan Edo at 2:30 so I told them that when we made the appt as well as when we met with her. This made dh feel a bit better too since it only gave us an hour before we had to leave.
So we did the tour and we both asked lots of questions. We took our info with us and went to have lunch. After we were seated, I noticed the family at the table across from us. I heard the dad ask if they had a DVC discount and mom was wearing a DVC hat. Dh suggested I follow them out and ask about their experience with it. I had a great talk with them and their biggest comment was the same as I have heard many people here say before, "We wish we had bought sooner." Dh and I were sitting on our patio at OKW that evening and he was asking me questions. I asked if he was actually considering it and much to my surprise he said yes!!!!
We called our salesperson the next day and had her run some numbers for us. BLT and AKV were the properties offered but we had more interest in OKW since it really fits what we look for in a vacation.
When we got the numbers, we chatted about it for a bit and actually decided BLT was a better use of the money. Even though the price per point was more, when we factored in the maintenance fees and location desirability should we ever need to rent points or, God forbid sell, we decided to go with BLT. I am not concerned about being able to get a ressie at 7 months out since we usually travel during slower times. I am also ok with trying different reorts.
We went back over that afternoon, signed our papers and were out of there (after our ice cream and picture of course)!! We are so happy with our decision. During this trip we decided that we really are resort snobs and would not be happy at a value. Dh especially, really needs more space and a private balcony. Add that to the fact that we are a family of 7 and need at least 2 rooms wherever we go.
So we have 1 trip planned already. Since we got 2009 pts that we need to use by Sept of next year, we are taking an adults only trip next August with some other disnut friends of ours. Then in summer 2012, we plan to use pts from 10, 11 and 12 to book a grand villa and take dh's youngest brother and their 3 kids who have never been to Disney.
Our goal right now is to pay off this contract and use cash to keep buying additional. We would love to have enough to spend a month there when dh retires.:woohoo:

Congrats......We will be using DVC for the first time in 2 days...We bought at AKL. Again congrats.

Congratulations! We are resort snobs too...welcome to the club!party:

Congrats on your purchase, we too bought this year at BLT and thought we would go again in Feb 2011 (we go every year in Feb) then addonitis set and and picked up an awesome resale (saved 4100.00 over dvc pricing and got 2009 points) so we are doubly excited! We have planned 3 trips in 2 bedroom units and DD's college age have used 1 week each in a studio! We are having our 1st trip to BLT in Dec I am so excited!
BTW I stayed at OKW in May with 2 girlfriends and it was heaven, so I can truly see why you would have liked OKW as a home resort.

You will find that this is the BEST money you have ever spent. Especially if you are like me. Every time I book a ressie I also go online and price the same trip to see what I would have paid had we not been DVC members. And to my shock I can't ever fathom spending that kind of money for a cash ressie. And it makes me realize that becoming a DVC owner was well worth it!

CONGRAT's

We bought in Jan. and just love it at BLT. We'll be going on our second trip this Dec. Hope you like it as much as we do.
Nancy :welcome:

I am also a new owner and I did buy at OKW. I leave in 9 days to stay at my home resort and I so excited.

Thanks everyone! I am soooo excited about it. This trip we just took was so incredibly expensive we said we would never be able to take another trip like it again. I only paid $8 per point but with that, airfare, food and 10 day base tix for all of us, I think the cost was well over $8000! As much as we loved it, we knew it was a one time thing. Now that we have DVC and can use an AP for 2 trips and make some of our own food, we can cut the costs down a ton and CAN do it again!!

I cannot believe HOW much money we saved by doing a big grocery shop every Disney trip! We make easy meals with left overs for lunch the next day. Example if we grill chicken, throw together salad and rolls the next day we have salad with chicken cut up in it for lunch. We are a family of 5 in over 10 nights we spend aprrox. 200.00 - 250.00 for the entire trip including adult beverages, soda and water.

Eating in the room works very well for us (we used to pack lunches and rent lockers for the day when they were 5.00 a day, now 12.00 no thank you easier to go back for late lunch to the room) and our DD's (3 teens) are ready to go back 1 - 2 in the afternoon for lunch, swim, chill then after dinner 7 or 8 head back to whatever park is open late.

We do go out once or twice for dinner but I have to say the entire family prefers to not have the hassle of eating out and all pitch in with the prep work and clean up.

Enjoy!

We are new, too! Congratulations:yay: We went to our local mall on Long Island, and toured the actual BLT rooms. May I say we are resort snobs, too? :rotfl:

Blame it on our son, a former cast member, who was a Concierge at the Grand Floridian!
