We are moving to California!!!

ugh! The move... We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and replacing some minor things around the house... I hope to have it on the market after we get back from DL! :cool1: Hope to be moved before Christmas...

I guess I am having a serious garage sale - we need to get rid of alot of stuff I am not wanting to take everything we own, I want to buy new when we get there!!!!!

Perfect! You'll be in Calif. just in time to go on the Ladies' Only trip in March!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

That's funny, we talk about wanting to leave California. We could sell our tiny house and buy a big one somewhere else. But on the other hand, the weather up here in N. Cal. is very nice and I do actually think it is prettier than S. Ca if I do say so myself. ;) I would love the part about living closer to DL though!!! There are also some very nice up and coming communities down there that are less expensive then up here. Good luck and have fun house hunting! :cheer2:

OMG, that's right!!!! I can't believe I didn't think to mention that. Good idea! :thumbsup2

LOL I've talked to a few who want to leave CA too. They are tired of the traffic and high prices. I guess you either love it or hate it. :confused3
If we ever did move back, I'd love to try N. Cal this time. I like it up there. Or the Central Coast. But again, I'd have to win the lotto first to be able to afford a 5 bedroom house on the coast! :lmao:

Congratulations on the move to CA! I too am moving to CA in just 17 days! I will be about an hour from DL, not as close as Anaheim but MUCH closer then I am now! (Can't help who you fall in love with and where they live and I am very excited to live that close ;) ) We are going to DL the first two weekends that I am there! Good luck with the house hunting and move!

Congrats on the move! DD and I moved to SoCal from Virginia a little over two years ago and just love it here.

We're not all crazy. Thats kind of stereotyping !! I say most Hollywood-ers are crazy compared to everywhere else. I'd like to say that people like me are more quirky than crazy

hey if you live in CA well unless you live deep in the woods or something then you know Im not stereotyping anything...:rotfl:

Not to put a downer on your plans but I hope you know what you are getting yourself into. The cost of living is a lot higher in Anaheim than it is anywhere in Texas. I hope you are putting a mansion on the market because you are going to need at least half a million to buy an "average" house almost anywhere in California! http://orangecoastrealestate.com/news.htm I'm always reading Texas as one of the best places to live in the USA... :thumbsup2 You sure you wanna leave?

I'm a so cal native...there are so few of us left for exactly that reason. I'm anxious to move as well, just because someday I would really like to own a home, and even though my fiance and I do quite well for ourselves, it is only enough for a 2 bedroom apartment in los angeles. It is impossible for young people who don't own anything or have equity to buy around here, even in this market!!

Anyway, enough of a rant...best of luck with your house hunting!!!

I have friends that just moved from poway to Houston. . . however they were from new orleans,so they could not wait to move near their"home". . their kids however have only known S. Cal, so they are slowly getting used to things back there. I am a calif native and cannot see myself leaving, I love our weather too much, I do not do well with high humidity. . . down right, welll, hmmmm, rhymes with itchy. . . :rotfl2: Be prepared for sticker shock not just in real estate, but prices all around, gas for your car, gas/electric for you home, water, sewer (and my sewer is what makes the water bill so high). My friend that just moved says it is cheaper to buy grocieries in a regular grocery store out in Houston that what we may at the commissary on base. ..

and hopefully once you move here you will love it and not be a naysayer. . . or negative nellie. ..

Good luck!

Well, not necessarily. Sure it's much more $$ to live in So Cal but there is a house right around the corner from me currently for sale for $178,000, granted I haven't been inside so I don't know the condition but there are all kinds of bank owned homes around right now. And yes, I live about 6 hrs away but it's still closer than TX! lol :)

Congrats OP!!!! I am jealous, I would love to move to Anaheim or Burbank but without a job it's just not in the cards for me.

Oops.. I mean half a million for an average house in the OC!

What cities are you looking at living in? My DH grew up in socal (lived there for nearly 30 years.) I only lived there (in Orange) for a year and half (that was long enough for me!) Really the only thing I liked about living there was being 10 minutes from Disneyland. Maybe if houses weren't so expensive I would've liked it a bit more...haha.

Have you been to the area a lot?

We haven't started looking yet, I lived in San Diego for a year... College moved back to marry my DH! (he promised we would move back as soon as we got married...) But I want to live closer to DL! Our budget is 700,000 - 945,000 being the absolute top

Texas is ok... I just want more in my life - we live in a small city with nothing to do, we are always traveling to do stuff... I have family in San Diego, and of course we would have DL!! :woohoo:

Someone recommended Anaheim Hills, anybody know anything??

That's good that you know the area then. Because socal definitely isn't for everyone.

From what I understand, it's a nice area. You can check websites like www.realtor.com and www.remax.com

I searched realtor.com for Anaheim Hills in your price range and some of the houses look pretty good.

I'm native born, raised and still live in Orange County. Anaheim Hills is nice, however it borders right along the 91 freeway and you kind of get stuck in the Inland Empire commuter traffic.

Because of the traffic out here, I'd be looking in the area of where work is located. It seems almost every city out here has a bad and nice area to it.

IMHO, South Orange County is the nicer areas of OC, but also pricier. But don't take me wrong, there are very nice areas of OC in almost every city. You get what you paid for.

I'd like to move out of California one day and with the equity built up in my house, I know I could easily do it. I'm just afraid that I might not be able to afford to move back.

I have heard that the schools in Anaheim are not very good... With my son starting preschool next year I think I will look into private schools instead of public. I am so excited I can't wait to actually get out there are see what is available
