We are home from 14 nights at okw

I just saw this thread and noticed the old key west location, we were in a 2 bed in building 42 the second fortnight in October also. Unfortunately we didnt get time to use the pool much but we did get a few snacks there. We found it great, nice and quiet but there was a tiny frog on our doorhandle one night and the next night he made it into the hallway and was jumping about really fast, much to the kids amusement.

I thought she was taking us to see just minnie but all the characters came out. Several cast members sort of formed a circle around us and DD got some special time with them. We even had our own photopass photographer and keisha taped it with our video camera. It was a truely magical momment.

All the characters then waved bye and went to do their 10am meet and greets.

It was pure pixie dust - DD does have a visible disability (she was born without her left arm) but I think it was the whole combination - quiet park, timing, DD all decked out in dress with matching bows and socks, first visit badges...who knows.
It is a stunning photo. Did you find yourself wishing it would happen again this time, even though you know these things are kind of one off?

We had similar at the MK one year at almost 3 am. We seemed to be the only ones around behind the castle and all the characters came and played around with DD. My pics are not as good as it was at night and I wasn't expecting it so didn't think to video. But strangely I did occasionally find myself wishing we could re-live that evening when we were there last month.

Within a few steps of the room was the pool. It was nice and large and lots of shallow areas so ideal for my 4 year old. I think it has recently been renovated and there is a hot tub. Seemed to be a few families there each time with young kids so my DD could find a 'friend'. Was never overly busy - could always get a lounger.

Next to the pool is the snack bar. I think this was open pm only - I know for definite it shut at 5. I refilled our mugs there alot.

As we were in a studio I alo used the laundry there next to the pool - it was free and not busy at all.

There was also a playpark.

We did try the main pool one day but my DD didn't want to go on the slide and the pool seemed alot smaller - maybe because it was alot busier.

Haven't read Pudsey's trip report - I wondered if you chose building 42 as Turtle Pond is suitable for small kids. We are going to OKW for the first time next year and wondered if this would be suitable for us - my DD will be 17.

Looking forward to seeing your photos

Turtle pond Pool was large and good for any age. There were always adults only there sunbathing and chilling out.

I requested Turtle Pond for next year as I think the snack bar would be handy. I know it has limited hours but did anyone use it? Does it have a self-service refill station or do the do it behind the counter?

Thanks

It was behind the counter but they happily filled the mugs when asked.

I think the snack bar hours were 12 noon til 5pm. It definitely shut at 5pm.

We only used it for refils but they did offer a few snacks like crisps, hot dog and mickey ice cream bars. It accepted DDP. They sold beer and margaritas aswell.

I've stayed at OKW about 8 times and always had a fab time there. Glad you did too. It is a very relaxing resort and we always feel at home there.
