We are going to see Mr. Mouse in mid January and me and DH Paul are in dispute over what we should pack to wear.
I have been led to believe that it will probably be like a spring day in UK and we should wear trousers and jumpers/light jackets and to pack a couple of fleeces.
Paul seems to think that he's going to pack shorts and t- shirts and a couple of pairs of trousers for the evening.
What he doesn't seem to realise is that I'm chief
washer/ironer/packer and I will pack the nessasary items!!!;)
The thing is, I don't want the old " I told you so" when we get there.
So, who's right?
( pick me, pick me:wave: )
Can you help me and if I'm right, I can show Paul this thread,
If I'm wrong then I'll pull the plug from the computer:teeth:

I'm not sitting on the fence (honestly! ;) ) but I think you're probably both right!

In mid-January you could have some scorching days :sunny:, or some very chilly ones ::yes:: - and very probably a bit of both.

Not good news for the packer as you might want to take a bit of everything.

Darn it:mad:
I wanted my moment of gloating.
Well, looks like I had better go well prepared.
thanx for your help

Yes I have to agree, I have 4 times in January and worn anything from shorts and T shirts to 2 fleeces and gloves (yes gloves! only early morning or evening but I did need them) Not much help when packing I know, but the weather can be unpredictable and can change overnight.

Yep, I've been 3 times in January too, and had mid to high 80's during the day, to near freezing at night - that was very much the exception though.

Average historical daytime high temps in Orlando are around 70 to 72 - in other words a good UK summer day normally - according to the archives on weather.com, so daytime may well be shorts and T's weather, and usually has been when I've been there in Jan...

Evening tend to see temps not very often drop to below the mid to low 50's, still not at all bad, but depending on how much you feel the cold, you should pack accordingly. I'd still likely be wearing shorts in those kinds of temperatures, my lass would probably be looking for her thermals ! ;)

And Dec, Jan and Feb are the month's with least rainfall too, so thats good news.

So I'd take at least one good warm jumper/fleece/jacket, in case you get a cooler spell like we had - we actually had to put the A/C on heat a couple of nights back in '97 I think it was. A few lighter jumpers will likely be the choice for most evenings - Jeans /trousers might be evening wear more than shorts too.

I wouldn't be too concerned though, it'll still be a good bit warmer than the Uk !

Hope this helps ! :D

thanx beejayjay and scoobies' m.
can I just ask you about the crowds and likelyhood of things being shut for refurbishment, being the said quietest time of year to go?
I have been told that quite a few rides and even eataries in the parks are not open and find this a bit disappointing.
I don't mind it being quieter but I hope that our favourits are up and running.
Any info would be appreciated

Hi Frantic

We've been this time of year twice in the past and going back again at the end of Jan 2004.
Being the quietest time of the year is relative; there are still plenty of people around its just not heaving like peek weeks.
Please don't worry the parks will not feel empty!
We have never noticed eateries being closed except maybe a few of the popcorn / snack trolley stalls.

As far as the weather in January is concerned, I would compare it to the first warm/hot days of the British summer so I would pack as you would for a UK break at the beginning of June.
If you don't take sufficient warm clothes don't worry there are plenty of shopping opportunities ( especially at sale time )
:wave2:

Thanx for reassuring me.
I'll be there from 17th to 31st so it looks like we'll be there the same time. ( I'll be wearing a pink carnation:blush: )
I'm not too bothered about a few stalls being closed.
Glad that although it's quieter, the crowds are there to give it good atmosphere
sooooo looking forward to going

Frog,

There is no need to be concerned about lack of atmosphere. That is one of the quieter times of year, but there will still be plenty of folks about. And personally I'd happily take a slightly more muted atmosphere if it means I dont have to wait in long queues to get on a ride !

We arrive Boxing day - the week between Chrimbo and New Year is about as busy as it gets, but having to fit in with school holidays means we'll just have to suck it up !

As for eateries being closed, I can't say I ever noticed any being closed at that time.

Rehabs - here's a link to a list of scheduled works :

WDW Rehab Schedule

Yes, a few rides/exhibits tend to be worked on at this time, but not so many that it would cut into your enjoyment, Disney are too shrewd for that !

Roll on Chrimbo.... ;)

Obviously, I have been given mis-leading information from somebody who said that they would never do January again as lots of things were shut, it was hard to find somewhere to eat and you are charged the same ticket price for half the enjoyment.
You have managed to put my mind at rest and I had a look at the link you suggested and there is nothing on there that would affect us anyway.
I'm just hoping that Typhoon Lagoon is open as I have only done this park once as all the other times we go ( usually Dec or Sept) it is closed so maybe we will be lucky.
thanks again Beejayjay:wave2:

You're very welcome Lin, glad to be of service !

One thing though, it looks like you might be out of luck with Typhoon Lagoon. This is the time of year when Disney does it's brush up work on the water parks, and the schedule this year had Blizzard beach closed for the period from October 26th to December 13th, then reopening.

Then Typhoon Lagoon closes from December 14th, and judging by the amount of time BB is closed, it will be closed for most if not all of January as well.

Sorry to have to pass that on. I was hoping to do Typhoon Lagoon too, instead we might well try Adventure Island, Busch Garden's water park near Tampa. It looks pretty good !

Oh BoOOOO!
I'm doomed not to do Typhoon Lagoon:(
I need to find a corner and go sulk now:mad:

Just a quick reiteration....Jan temps in Orlando average 71 F for daytime highs and low 50s overnight lows.

The entire month of January is considered "off season" in Orlando...apart from Disney, many hotels offer rock-bottom rates during January (the potential is there to do very well to secure much lower than average rates).

thanx jersey.
we have a villa booked and we paid the lowest price for the year.
i just really fancied going in january to get my batterries charged up for the rest of the year( we are returning on 27th dec 04).

beejayjay - sorry I think I bring bad news too, but I'm pretty sure Adventure Island is summer only. Could be wrong, but about 99% certain - didn't want you driving all the way out there only to find it out at the gate!! Check on the website, sorry don't have the link handy

Thanks muchly for the heads up LGD !!

Nevermind, we've got the Orlando Flex Tickets with access to Wet 'N' Wild included now, so we'll happily settle for that. It's been years since my one previous visit, hopefully it's a good bit better now. I wasn't too impressed first time, but I'm sure the kids will love it even if my lass and I just float around on rubber rings and chill...

Thanks again. :D

can't help you with wet and wild I'm afraid - will happily soar upside down on rollercoaster, but shooting down large plastic tube in water is way too scary for me - apparently however there is some new ride which feels like being flushed down a loo (hmm!). Am feeling quite homesick reading posts with 'lass' in, I'm not from anywhere up north, it's just not something I've heard for a few years!!!
