We are at Disney's Hilton Head Resort NOW!

Hi, Folks,

Sorry for the delay but DW is under the weather with a severe cold and chest congestion. Anyway, we headed out yesterday afternoon for a late lunch. It seemed a lot of places were closed so we ended up at Longhorn's. Then we came back and got ready for B'lou Crabbe's magic show. It was nice and he got a lot of the kids involved with the show. We then went back to the room and waited for the ghost stories at Big Murggie's. I could listen to B'lou for a lot longer than an hour. I was a bit worried, however, about his last story about the bony guy and shadow. It supposedly happened at the end of the boardwalk where our villa is. Anyway, the weather is warmer but the humidity keeps the chill factor high. I'm about to get DW up and see if we are going to make it to Savannah today. We won't do much since she has her cold. Maybe take the trolley tour, go on River Street, eat at the Chart House, and come back. Plus it is supposed to rain today. It is odd that we own at BWV and even here at HHI we get a boardwalk view. Anyway, gotta run and see what we will end up doing today. Later folks.:coffee:

Mickey'sApprentice, at the risk of being pushy here (I do love all HHI pictures), there's one picture I'd be sooo grateful for. It's of the bird feeder area between buildings 17, 18, and 20. The paved path splits to go around it. I remember last time we were there, we stayed in building 18, and I spent lots of time standing on the stairs watching the birds there (mostly Carolina chickadees). But dumb me-I never thought to take a picture of it. It was so restful and enjoyable, and there are times when I certainly could use to see that spot again.

Mickey'sApprentice,

I hope you get to feeling better. Hopefully the weather will warm up for you.

Mickey'sApprentice's DH thank you for posting the pictures they are beautiful. Only four and a half more months.

I just wanted to say the same thing (feel better & thanks for the beautiful pics) :goodvibes

Thanks for the pictures. I have never been to HH but plan on going next year. I hope you feel better !!!! Enjoy your trip !!!!

Update:

So we both got up really early this morning. We had not accomplished a lot on our trip, and this is our last day. I had eyed the humungous tub for days and finally gave it a shot. Good gracious, that thing is huge!!

Dh went to the mercantile and bought me some cotton socks to wear on the marsh walk while I finished getting ready. We went for the Marsh walk with the naturalist and learned about snails, mussels, oysters, reeds, wild pickles, and got a great lesson in wearing rubber boots. It was an interesting hour. The weather was cool, but not bad.

Afterwards, we went to the mercantile, and I bought a really cool hat to wear at Walt Disney World. It was straw, and had a black scarf tied around it with Mickeys all over it. :thumbsup2 While there, I saw some very interesting place mats that were Mickeys intricately linked together. I think they call the color alien green. Hmmm. We walked back from the mercantile and found a bird feeder, and took pictures.

Afterwards, we jumped in the car to Savannah. We had to stop first to get power steering fluid. I have to explain about the power steering fluid. Our car has a leak in the reservoir, so we have to have fluid pretty often. This wouldn't be a problem except a very mean person at General Motors designed the power steering reservoir. Yep, you have to stick your entire arm behind the motor on the passenger side of the car. So we found a Dollar General and set out to change the power steering fluid. We found 1) the fluid 2) a funnel, and 3) set out to find a long hollow tube to go between the funnel and the reservoir. We looked at a child's baton, the cardboard tube in a role of paper towel, a feather duster with a hollow handle, and a pot scrubber with a foot long plastic reservoir for dish detergent. We found that we could destroy the pot scrubber the easiest, so we purchased that as well as a pair of scissors. So, in the tradition of McGyver, we changed our power steering fluid. I'm amazed that even the Dollar General in HH is in a relatively nice looking shopping center.

On to Savannah! We drove to River Street and parked. We walked all the way down River Street, stopping at various shops. Savannah has wonderful shops with original art and prints. Although River Street is a tourist trap area, the art prints are very nice, and there is a very nice variety. Dh found a really cool University of Alabama print with a crimson mat that he really liked, so we got it. We then moved on to the Savannah Candy Co. for a free praline sample. Everybody should do this. Wow! DH got some sugar free fudge and I got a 1/2 lb. pralines. (It was much less than I wanted, but 1/2 lb. more than I needed.) Anyway, we stopped and ate lunch at Lizzie's or something like that on River Street. It was pretty good.

We then got on the White Trolley. We had ridden it before. It provided an excellent tour of Savannah. It was just us and another couple, and I think the guide really gave us a good tour. I really like the tours because you learn so much more than if you just went wondering around on your own. With that said, I think its also really great for you to venture out on your own in your own car after you take the tour. So we saw, lots of beautiful squares, saw where Forrest Gump ate the box of chocolates, the house from Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, the house of the woman who started the girl scouts, and on and on. Savannah is a really historic town, and you will learn a whole lot. We also tried to go in the Savannah history museum, but it was closed. We then drove around some on our own.

So finally, as the sun started going down, dh remembered that the tour guide said that this is the only time of the year that you can get into Paula Deen's Lady & Sons Restaurant. I was a bit apprehensive after reading really bad reviews. However, it was great! We were able to get in with about a 20 minute wait, and the food and service were both really good. I'm pretty sure Lady & Sons had gone down, and I'm pretty sure that they have gotten the quality problems under control. After our 1 and only visit, I would recommend Lady & Sons. While we were waiting, we went in the Lady & Sons store. I didn't see anything that I really wanted. I did consider getting my much older sister an apron that said, I'm still hot! It just comes in flashes. We parked a few blocks away, and I must admit that there were some unsavory looking characters hanging around that part of Savannah around dark. Paula Deen's IS NOT in the older historic district, but is closer to the City Market and downtown. Afterwards, we were full and waddled back to the car, bought gas and headed back to the resort.

We are settling in, and will be getting ready to head back at 8am in the morning.

Here are some pics. Sorry for the long report.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

I'm glad you had a good time at Paula Dean's - we ate there last year and found it to be very good :goodvibes
We missed the nature tour this time around, but will get to it next visit!
Sorry to hear about your car problems - we used to have a ford van that had a leak in the power steering fluid - no fun!!
Maybe next time our visits will overlap and we can say hello in person :wave2:

Thanks. I have to admit that I stuffed myself at Paula Deen's. It was sooo good. That and the Crazy Crab were the highlights of the trip, food wise.

As much as I love our HHI resort, a day in Savannah is always the highlight of the trip.

Dh and I both enjoyed the marsh tour and I think Dh enjoyed the Beach combing excursion.

The power steering problem is more of an annoyance than anything else. I just enjoyed relaying my McGyver moment.

We really didn't take any pictures in Savannah on this trip because we have some great Savannah pictures from our last trip. I may upload some of those pics and just tell you what we saw.

Thanks for the report and pics! Glad you afre feeling better. You are leaving at a good time- it's only supposed to be a high of 39 degrees here today and it's rainy! :crazy2:

Oh, Thank you, thank you! Those pictures are just what I wanted/needed. I'm using one of them as my desktop, the third one down. They're all so beautiful, I had a hard time deciding, but that one reminded me of first thing in the morning, as well as it appeared to be taken from building 18 area, which is the building we stayed in. I'll probably change my desktop to one of the other pictures in a couple weeks, just because I love them all.

We made it back home this afternoon. We left about an hour later than we wanted to. Had to get some last minute items at the mercatile. I got a B'Lou Crabbe CD, a HHI pin with Shadow on it, and a refillable mug so now I have a mug from each resort I've stayed at with the exception of both Port Orleans' and POP. It was a good short trip but now it's time to get ready for BWV in March. Simba's Mom, you are welcome on the bird feeder pics.

I'm going to be on Hilton Head in June for a family reunion. Unfortunately we're not staying at Disney's hotel (would have been my choice). I'm not a DVC member yet, but interested. Do you know if they allow non-members to visit the resort? Are there restaurants, shops, etc.? We're traveling with kids and thought it might be a "family friendly" place to visit during our trip. Any thoughts? If it's not allowed - no biggie.

Yes, you will be able to visit the resort. Just use the call box at the gate and they will let you visit. There is a snack bar near the pool, but no restaurant. The Mercantile does offer typical Disney items (some unique to the HH Resort) as well as some grocery items.

Depending on when you are there, if you ask at the front desk they might be able to let you tour a villa - if there any clean and unoccupied. You probably won't be able to see the Beach House since that would require both a parking pass and a room ID for access.

Enjoy!

We had some business on HHI today and went by the resort. We walked around took photos (to be posted later) and got a Mickey Premium in the Store.

It was a beautiful day all around.

They love guest at HHI!
