We checked in yesterday and are already in love!

I used the fitness room this morning. It is well equipped and very clean.

Since we are on a fitness kick, we will be doing a lot of cooking in our room, so I can't really speak to the restaurants on site.

Does anyone have any questions or anything they want me to check on while we are here?

We have our own car, so we will be doing excursions on our own, too.

I am happy for you. :thumbsup2

We will be there in 73 days and we are so excited.

Please tell us about your self guided excursions..... that's what we plan to do also.

We will be reading every thing you post. :yay:

Could you post the daily Iwa iof you get a chance? I'm curious about what they are offering and when, such as the Starlit Hui. We will be there in 3 weeks. Enjoy your trip!

I'm so excited for you  We are going to be there in August in a studio room, can you tell me if there are laundry options? Is there a certain floor? I think I read about it being a deal for DVC members.

I am curious what types of places are there around Aulani to buy groceries for the room. Is there a Walmart or Target or is it some little local type grocery store, and how expensive is it when you actually eat out?

There is a super target and Walmart 10 minutes from the resort. Definitely buy your food from these locations. MUCH cheaper than the onsite store.

Yvonne, I will post them all when we return home. The Starlit Hui is on Monday and Thursday evenings. We are excited to see it tonight! Anything else in particular that you are looking for in the daily schedule?

We are in a 1br unit, so we have a stacking washer/dryer in our room. I did notice that they have a laundry room on the first floor near the elevators. They are coin op, but they may give you tokens or quarters like they do at GCV when you are there on points.

We have been doing our shopping at the Costco and Target. It is just a 5 minute drive away. The only place we have eaten out at so far is at one of the north shore shrimp trucks. It was $13 a plate plus drink. I would put Hawaii on par with Disney food resort prices. It is expensive, but you kind of expect it.

Yesterday I was up at the crack of dawn, so I went down and used the workout facilities. There were a few other people who came in, but it wasn't crowded at all. It is nice and clean. This morning I was the only person using it, but that could be because it was only 5:30am.

Yesterday we took a drive to the North Shore to see some surfing. We stopped at a few beaches and admired the view. We made our way to Giovanni's Shrimp Truck for lunch. The kids and I ordered the lemon butter shrimp and dh got the shrimp scampi. They were all good, but I would get the shrimp scampi next time. For $13 you get a pile of shrimp and two scoops of rice. Drinks are extra. We would eat there again for sure! On the way back we stopped at Paalaa Kai Bakery. They were all sold out of malasadas, so the kids settled for puffies(their specialty). They loved them. Dh and I sadly sat and watched as we are both on diets.

When we got back to Aulani, we hit the ocean for some snorkeling(you can buy your own equipment at the Target, Costco, and Sports Authority a few stops down the highway) mainly to get my daughter used to it. We saw a few small fish, but didn't go very far out. We then took them to Rainbow Reef and signed them up for the length of stay pass. A word of warning, Disney age prices are in effect here, too. 10 years old and up will have to pay the adult pass rates. They said that the water was colder than the pool, but I expect that they will use it a couple of times a day. You can use your own mask and snorkel or they will provide one for you.

We spent the rest of the time enjoying the pools and lazy river. We cooked dinner in our room and then visited Aunty's Beach House to check out the facilities. My 11yo and 9yo want to go back today to spend some time. Mainly they are interested in the interactive game tables.

It wouldn't be a Disney trip without some pixie dust, right? We booked this trip three weeks ago on a whim, so I had to piece our reservation together. The first night we were in a 2br, the next 5 in a 1br and the last two in a studio. When we arrived I asked about the chance of us switching out our 2br for a 1br so that we wouldn't have to change rooms the next day. The great cm at the desk was able to do that and even was able to return the extra points, which I never expected. The next morning I decided to log into dvc member and see if a 1br opened up for the last two nights. Score! We were able to get a standard 1br. The points for the studio plus the points in holding from our room category switch were enough to cover the 1br with one point to spare! We have to switch rooms for the last segment, but a 1br works much better for us.

Today we are going to hang by the pools and get some homework finished. Dd wants to attend the craft class today to make a bracelet and we are looking forward to the Starlit Hui tonight. They also have fire pit storytelling tonight, so if we can stay awake, we might attend that, too.

If you are a pin trader, we have only seen the DVC sales people with lanyards. Mostly they are wearing hidden mickey pins. They have the tiki and Valentine Vinylmations for sale in the gift shop as well as a small selection of pins. They do not have Vinylmation trading.

How are you doing beach setup? Are you renting from Disney or did you buy your own? If renting, is it a daily or half day rate? Just wondering how comfortable the beach accomodations are.

Thanks! Have a terrific time!

I have read past resorts where there were a shortage of chairs, but it has been our experience that there are plenty of free chairs available. We did buy our own snorkeling gear because it was cheaper to just buy it rather than renting it, even if we just give it away at the end of our trip. Snorkel rentals are $20 for the day or you can rent by half day or hour. You can also rent beach umbrellas and the cassabellas(double wooden lounger with a fold out cover). If we want shade, we just go back to the room for a while.

Saturday was the most crowded of any of the days so far, but even then there were beach and poolside chairs available. They seem to be doing a good job of monitoring to make sure that everyone is wearing the wristband of the day.

Does that help or would you like more specific information?

The Starlit Hui is on Monday and THURSDAY - weather permitting. When I was there two weeks ago the Thursday performance was rained out.

Sounds like you are having a great time and won't have to move rooms! We will be staying in 2 bedroom and the goal is to eat out just a few times while there. I am curious about what dishes/meals people are cooking in their Aulani villas. Is there a stove top grill in the kitchen? Have you used the rice cooker? Any ideas would be appreciated!

You are correct! The weekly 'Iwa that DVC members get says that it is Monday and Friday, but I just checked with concierge and it is Monday and Thursday. Ours may be rained out tonight.

I'll edit my first post in case anyone doesn't read further.

I wish they had stove top grills, but they don't. So far we have had broiled chicken one night and we had tri tip last night. Tonight we will probably have fish. We haven't tried the rice cooker as we are cutting back on starches, but it looks pretty easy to use. They supply the villas with rice bowls and chopsticks, too. We have had fun shopping at Costco and seeing the different things that they offer. They have a pretty large selection of Poke.

They also have reasonable prices on chocolate covered macadamia nuts and Kona coffee, so that is probably where we will end up buying gifts for teachers, etc.
