What are your preconceived notions of states that you may or may have not visited?

What are your preconceived notions of states that you may or may have not visited?

New Yorkers are rude and you'll get held up there.

Florida is full of old people.

Arkansas people wear cut-off shorts and name their children Travis. And for fun, they go the the lake as a vacation and use their 5th wheel trailer and think this is the "bomb." They also have mullets.

Iowa people sit on porches and watch corn grow. They have that thing between their teeth, what IS that? A piece of wheat, what?

People in Texas and Texas itself is big. Big cars, big hair, big butts, big homes, big salaries...

New Jersey is really either too hot or too cold and no one can afford their property tax. Also, someone from California is driving around looking for someplace to pump their own gas because NO one is touching their car.

My preconceived notions are all about foods associated with certain states. :upsidedow

I work with all 50 states, all of the TV markets in the country. UNFORTUNATELY I've started associating each state with the representatives I deal with in that market. I KNOW it's not correct but I have a tendency to think that it's a state trait! :lmao:

My favorite state: NY of course, they're honest to a fault. AND it's what I grew up with.

The market that makes me go :confused3 Birmingham, Alabama. Every single station I deal with has a rep that is a TRUE pain and highly entitled. Just that ONE market... :confused3

\.

I live in Iowa and I CAN see the corn field from my porch. (Corn fields are magical when they are full of lightning bugs at night)

I have lived in Florida and it WAS full of old people.

I have relatives in Arkansas and the DO have a lake house (small shack).

North Dakota is "empty". No one lives there. :rotfl: There are lots of potatoes in Idaho.

I always think I'm going to have a great time and see some really interesting things. And I always do. Except in New Jersey. I apologize to all you wonderful New Jerseyans (New Jerseyites?), but past experience has convinced me that I -- specifically me, not necessarily anyone else -- do not want to ever set foot in that godforsaken state. Ever again. No, no, no, no no.

You are so going to hell.......and....I'm going with you!!!:lmao::lmao:

New Yorkers and New Jersey residents are rude.

Utah people are W-E-I-R-D, you can keep your little pass for alcohol and your polygamist.

Oregon is pretty much heaven on earth, but we will keep that a secret.;)

The movie "Sweet Home Alabama" with Reese Witherspoon, went overboard. I don't act anything like the people in that movie. (neither does anyone else I know)

I've been to Louisiana (brother and his family in NW Louisiana) but the South gets the stereotypical bias from me (sorry!)

Wide open spaces in the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho.

Rude in NYC proper, but my daughter-in-law has family in that state, and they're good people.

Cactus & dust in Arizona & New Mexico.

Isn't it funny that wherever home is, is OK (altho, I'm sure there are people who are living somewhere they don't want to be - that must be hard) I love loving in California. Of course, I don't know anything else!

Very funny about Arkansas! I had to laugh because my grandpa's name was Travis. However, my kids don't sport mullets, we don't go to the lake for vacation, and DH and I are not related. I also don't even know what a 5th wheel trailer is.

However, I have seen some people around town that probably fit these descriptions perfectly.

y'all have some teeth missing don't ya??

I picture Californians (more specifically LA area) to be all bleached blondes with lots of plastic surgery.

People in Washington all wear flannel and Doc Martens and drink lots of coffee.

Of course, I live in Georgia which is probably one of the most stereotyped states of all!

This past summer, my family and I vacationed in California for almost 3 weeks. While there, my ds14 asked me "so where are all of the beautiful people?". :lmao: I guess he was under the impression that California was the home of beautiful people.

California is full of blondes in pink swimsuits and big white rimmed sunglasses!

Idaho has potastoes growing everywhere so you can just pick and cook

Connecticut is full of rich stiff upper lip old money people

Alaska is full of cold people wearing eskimo like suits

Fun thread :) It is interesting what stereotypes there are - kind of like how, when there is a movie set in Paris, you can see the Eiffel Tower from every window.

I live in Iowa & although I have 3rd and 4th cousins who farm, I have never lived on one. And the last pair if bib overalls I wore was in 1st grade. :)

OK, so my preconceived notions are:

* NJ & NY ers are rude & loud.

* CA is full of gorgeous, toned people.

* I hear about folks in the Appalachians & all I see are the people on the 20/20 specials who give their babies Mountain Dew.
