WL is a great resort and I love it, but really the biggest reason it's considered deluxe is for its boat access to MK. The same thing is true for the EPCOT area resorts that you can ride the boat to EPCOT from, or walk to EPCOT from. There's only one deluxe resort from which you cannot get to a park without riding a bus, and that's AKL.

I would have to disagree with your conclusion. If the WL was moved to another location it still would not become a moderate. For one thing the rooms are a bit nicer, and for another all the moderates are motels. Since it isn't a moderate, and it sure isn't a value, the only catagory left is deluxe.

Disney's already overbuilt with rooms at the values and Pop. That's why Pop isn't finished. And they're still building out SSR which will be something like 800 villas. They've got too many rooms to start another major hotel resort in the near future. They'll probably just continue rehabbing what they've got. If they do start another resort, I'd bet it'll be DVC - maybe the long-planned Eagle Pines golf-themed resort. I'd rather see a DVC at the CR, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have to admit, though, that a Portofino or Venice-type deluxe resort would spark my interest. Something like the Venetian hotel at Tokyo Disney would be awesome.

FWIW I read somewhere, Making Memories I think, that there no future plans of any traditional resorts ever being built again. Any new constructions would be new DVC resorts. With teh amount of land that WDW has (not counting land that was set aside for protection) corporate thinks that there is room for 3 more theme parks and 7 additional DVC resorts.

I am sure Disney will find a way to build another resort and I do feel it should be a moderate one. Once Pop is finished they will have a whole lot of Value resorts, Moderates are few and far between they need a new one and I have to agree with many of you about an "America" themed resort. My other line of thinking is they may do something really futurestic and high tech. I mean everyone loves Gadges and Gizmos has a lap top. That would be something to catch peoples attention too.

I agree, it would still be a Deluxe. All the moderates and values have "exterior cooridores"

They made a special lighting show during the 160th years aniversary of Tivoli.

Tivoli is from 1843.

I was told by CMs that they will be building DVC's only for quite a while....

All values and moderates have exterior hallways just means that a resort with an interior hallway can't be a value or moderate, not that all resorts that have exterior hallways must be either a value or moderate. Coincidently, though, we have a saying in the halls of the BWV, after the secret handshake:OKW is the moderate and/or value resort of the DVC chain. (Not really, but I'm not against making things up to support my position)

Disney puts the home away from home resorts in a separate category. Does OKW even offer room service? Not saying there is a demand for it but that's one of the things a deluxe hotel normally offers.
