Has anyone ever been to WDW with Gout???
DH is smack in the middle of an episode and we leave on Saturday! :scared1:
Any tips would be appreciated! :thanks:

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

My answer would be two-fold.

One is pain medications.

Second is rent an ECV. If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including where people rent ECVs in Post #2.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

And I have been on Allopurinal 300mg for over 30 years and have only had one minor flare in all that time. The cost for 90 tablets is less than my $10 co-pay. I think I did a month at 100mg, a month at 200mg, and then the 300mg ever since.

Go to the grocery and buy him some fresh cherry. Have him eat 10-15 daily the rest of the week. Hopefully that will stop the episode and he won't have to worry about it. Works for my FIL and me.
If he still is in pain get an ECV.

Thanks! Someone else suggested that during his last episode a few months ago! We hopped right on them this time! :thumbsup2

(he's even drinking pure black cherry extract on top of that - can't be too safe right?)

My granny always used cherries when she had gout. Knocked it right out of her within a day or two. Hope you hubby is rid of it before you leave. :)

Not yet, but going in October. I have had many, many flare-ups in recent weeks and have not gotten it under control yet. Here's to getting it tamed . . . and if not, I'll be a 33 y/o, athletic body, riding an ECV. I'm sure lots of people will have something to day about that. Of course, I could wear a sign . . . hidden disability!

Hope your husband gets feeling better soon.

A fast working med I tried was called Colchicine( not sure if its spelled right. It works by getting rid of the gout totally in a few hours. It did work for me however the side main side effects were throwing up and diarrhea and I had both for a day. But hey the gout was totally gone. Indomethacin is a good drug of choice for the pain to. It at least helps to keep the pain under control until the symptoms go away.

Allopurinal is great as a preventative measure... I take 300mg daily too and have only had mild symptoms since as well.

DH went to the Doc right before we went... :worship:

On top of the meds he already takes (allopurinol/colchicine,) he was given Indomethacin - which helped nearly overnight!
We then loaded him up on Cherries to eat, and pure cherry extract to drink! (can't be too safe, right? :) )

Things calmed down enough for us to enjoy our trip and we had a WONDERFUL time! :thumbsup2
Thanks for all the support!
