WDW with cruise or separate trip?

I’m trying to decide if I should use our points to add 2-3 nights to our 3 night cruise from port Canaveral in April or just book a separate long weekend at another time of the year. We live 1 hour from Disney and 2 from port Canaveral so I’m thinking a separate trip but combining would give us priority to get on the ship earlier with DCL transport and maybe make it seem like a longer vacation. What would you pick?

We've done a Parks/Cruise/Parks trip with a short 3-night Wish itinerary in the middle and really liked it, but just like Dug720, we traveled a long ways and it's not possible for us to visit often, so a longer, less frequent trip makes sense for us.

I travel too far to do the cruise on its own and I am tacking on a few days before the cruise in Florida.

When I cruise out of San Diego (my home port), I just do that and I go to Disneyland a different time. I usually get on board around noon.

Have you done a 3 night cruise before? It goes by very fast. Our first cruise was a 3 night out of Port Canaveral and it was back when taking the transfer from WDW resorts took forever. We got on board after 3pm. I never saw the whole ship because I was in the ports the next 2 days and then after that, it was time to leave. So, if a couple extra hours on the ship will make it more enjoyable for you, do the resort stay.

We did a 5 night cruise smack in the middle of a 16 day trip. Def dont regret it but the packing was a nightmare because we joined all the fish extender groups and with pirate outfits etc we brought way too much stuff and had to buy an extra suitcase from Amazon for the way back.

We came from California so that's why we did both we wanted to experience the Fantasy and after being out there already it made sense.

We did a week at WDW and then a week-long cruise on the Fantasy in 2012 and even after that much Disney, upon disembarkation we STILL wished we were heading back to the parks for a few days. That’s why, even with the annoyance of packing and unpacking (and we’re BIG split stay people), a cruise sandwiched by WDW resort time is still on my bucket list. I don’t think I could ever be in FL and NOT go to WDW at some point during my trip, if I could swing the extra vacation days!

You should at least do WDW on the day have disembarked, even if you stay in a non-Disney hotel… at least you’ll have more time to relax and enjoy Disney instead of head straight through the airport.

Since you live so close are you driving yourselves down? If you do then where are you leaving your car? I would drive to the cruise port, it's cheaper and faster than the bus, and stay at WDW after the cruise for a few ways. We stay at WDW before and after the cruise. It's a nice place to relax.
