Thinking about going to WDW in Aug (has to be then) with our little girl who will be exactly 9 months old by then. Am worried about the long flight (Virgin). Anyone share tips, experiences about flights and WDW in general with a very small person.

Virgin are great! Just do it, you won't regret it! We spent ages worrying about the flight, the heat, what other people would think etc etc. You will have a great time what ever you decide.:)

We took DD at 9 months old in March :) She had a great time and it was great for her development too :thumbsup2

The flight was fine. Over a period of a couple of weeks before I had stocked up on new toys (small ones) and books that she had for the first time on the flight. We were flying PE and had the upstairs skycot position. This meant she had room to stand down by our feet (she is now walking and had been 'cruising' since she was 6mths  ) when we didn't have the skycot. It was also good as we could just get the skycot for her to nap in and cabin crew stowed it at the rear of the cabin the rest of the time.

Our DD is NOSEY so doesn't really sleep outside of her cot but she naps a little. She had acouple of short naps on the flight outbound and slept for about 4.5hrs on the return flight.

At WDW itself after a couple of days she would quite happily nap in the stroller of a morning and in the afternoon we would take her back to the room for a proper sleep.

We generally just bought the kids meals for her as she was well established on solids (lots of mac & cheese!) or she shared ours.

My biggest corncern with August would be heat but you can buy clip on fans for strollers and make sure they are well shaded.

We are taking DD back again in September and she will be 15mths then. My biggest problem is now that she is walking she might want to get out of the stroller and walk :scared1: I am hoping if we let her have a walk round the play areas she will be happy to pushed round the rest of the time ;)

Any questions I will be happy to answer and I would have no doubts about about taking another baby at that age :goodvibes

Elise79, I'll be passing on your tips to my friend. She's going out the same time as us and we're planning to meet up. She's very worried about taking an 8 month old to Florida in August, so hopefully your tips will reassure her!

Thanks for your help so far guys, please people, keep em coming. Thanks for the skycot advice, would try to book one - how many do Virgin have on each plane as I know Continental only have 2 and we are concerned in case the ones they have have already been reserved.
thanks again

hiya

we took morgan at 8 weeks old, on bmi, it was great. he was as long as the sky cot then though.

I was worried about about not getting the cot, as they custome services say they are assigned to the youngest babyson the plane which was fine lol not many people take babys away at less than 8 weeks.

we only took enough nappies for the first few days and just stocked up there

we go again on thursday (cant wait) we havnt requested a sky cot this time as I dont think theres a hope Morgan will fit (being nearly 2ft 6 lol and 1 stone 10 at 7 months), we are doing the same thing again with nappies, we have also packed lots of lttle toys like the above poster said. oh and teething gel!

The other thing I took on the plane (Mushumadness reminded me!) was the sachets of Calpol. They had to go in my 'liquids' bag through security but there was no problem taking them at all. I would definatly recommend it!

In the luggage I took a bottle of calpol and nurofen just in case. I did take all the nappies we need for the week but had a plan of shopping to fill the empty space for the return journey!

We'll be taking our DS in August when he will be nearly 16 months so for for the flight I will make sure he has his blanket and a cuddly toy to help him sleep.

I have got a fan for his buggy from Mothercare and this weekend as they have 10% off I am going to buy one of the shade a babes UV covers to attach to the buggy like a raincover.

I am going to have breadsticks and raisins to keep him quiet too and lots of bananas which are great for 9 month olds too as you just need to spoon.

We are also taking our own car seat so we don't have any issues on how to fix it in the car when we get there.

Around the parks I will make sure I have lots of water and take regular stops.

Have a great trip :thumbsup2

When mine were little -years ago now!-the best piece of advise I was given was to give them a drink/bottle to balance ear pressure on take off and landing.

They're now 14 & 16 so I give them a lollipop instead :rotfl2:

Hiya

When we travel in October our twins will be 18 months.:)
I have to say I'm dreading the flight, more because we can't really play 'pass the baby' as we will have one each. We also have DD (7) who is really helpful, but I'm sure on a long flight she'll be fed up with them.

I am planning to take on the flight...........
Lots of snacks
new toys and books (as posted earlier)
calpol

I am going to get them up early on the morning before we fly as then they have a long nap after lunch.

We too are only going to take enough nappies for flight and the first day. Otherwise we'd have a case full of nappies for two bottoms ;)

We are not taking our car seats, but I am taking our twin buggy as it reclines and they can sleep in the parks and also the rental price for a double stroller is steep.

I've recently been getting my two used to wearing hats as the buggy has a hood shade, but two parasols on it are a bit of a nightmare. Can you imagine trying to exit the park after a parade with a parasol on each side :rotfl:

Hi, you can buy a 'shade a babe' cover for a double buggy. I have a single and I would not be without it. Mine cost £30 (I'm not sure about the price for doubles) but I know they can be picked up quite cheaply from ebay. If you buy one, get the newer design with the zipped 'flap' in the front as this is ideal for passing drinks/snacks through to the older child. I would never go back to a parasol.:)

I took my DS for the first time when he was 18 months. Was kind of worried about the flight but it was fine. As we were up early he fell asleep before we took off - so that was fortunate. I had a couple of his small toys with me and some snacks for him for the flight, and mind *** of his age (maybe no good for you stitch) but as he was into everything, we ended up walking him up and down the plane ?? times. We ended up talking to loads of people and it kept us all moving. And he fell asleep again before we got there.
In the parks was no prob, when he was tired he went in his buggy - as we bought a smaller cheap but not too cheap buggy for going with - and again fell asleep when/wherever as they do at that age. The best thing though, was he was fed before we went for a meal, by the time ours usually came he was fast asleep, so we ate in peace. Mind all the waiters/waitresses wherever, weren't too happy they never got to see his lovely smile.
I wouldnt worry too much, kids adapt at whatever age, so go enjoy yourself
