WDW: We haven't evaporated yet

Well apparently it seems to be an epidemic among high school girls. These girls appear to be happy but something is seriously wrong inside. They are constantly bombarded with these impossible illusions of perfect appearance, getting good grades, studying for college entrance exams, and seems that they are too young to deal with all this stress.

They don't feel that it's all worth it. They don't see the long run, just the current stress that they are under. And lets not mention the sex issues.

Having spoken to numerous guidance counselors and school staff, us parents have been made aware of what to look for and how to help. Two girls in my daughters class alone tried to kill themselves over this semester.

Did you really want to know??

Now I have to look up precedents on legal cases where children are being taught in trailers and not class rooms. See we have an argument to present to our school board on Tuesday night, and we don't want our children being taught in trailers, when there are redistricting options available.

This problem goes waaaaay deeper than just entrance exams and perfect appearances, IMO. Having co-workers and friends with teenagers, I see just how different it is being a teen in today's society vs. when I was a teen in the 80's. Gawd, has it been that long already???

I mean, I've seen many a teen come home loaded to the gills with homework (sometimes 6 or 7 hours worth PER NIGHT), parents putting undue pressure on them to perform. I don't seen how ANYONE plays sports in high school now with all the extra homework required just to pass a course. They are bombarded with advertising, drug offers, violence-laden programming, etc. Couple that with the fact that parents are working more than ever just to make ends meet, which means that most teens are unsupervised for long periods of time and have no parental guidance. Parents now are more interested in being buddies with their kids, not parents (glad I'm not falling into that trap).

Add it all up, and it makes for ugly conditions that kids are expected to handle without any guidance whatsoever.

See, I can expound on subjects other than your landing strip.

Sorry to burst your bubble - but the issues that make teens contemplate suicide are not always *pressure*...there is usually much more to it then ANYONE on the outside looking in can see, no matter what kind of *expert* that outsider claim's to be...

This is a delicate subject to me - so for once on this thread, believe it or not; I am backing away from this discussion because I know emotion will take over and I will make comments that I may not necessarily mean...

on that note - someone PM me when were talking about sex, AI or heck I'll even take the politics again over this...

I know that the issues run deeper, just didn't want to get into it here. I'm sorry this is a sensitive issue for you, it is for me as well and I will not pursue the topic in deference to you.

So I guess the Kudos you gave Jas weren't related to the mind numbing conversations that we've been involved in, only to that intellectual conversation can be sexy.

Actually - I'm not to sure what part of Canada Boss is from, but I am from Bolton (small town about 20 minutes North of Toronto) so my town is SARS free!!!

I go out along side the runway here to watch four F-16s take off, and I miss the one thought provoking conversation Lizzie started, figures (thank you to the police officer who escorted me out there). Out of courtesy to Madonna, and my own personal reasons why, I'm gonna let that conversation go, anyway.

So, I now know how LOUD F-16s are taking off. My ears are still ringing (and this was even after I decided who cares if I look like a whimp I'm plugging my ears). It was very kewl having the pilots wave to us as they were taxing down.

Gee Madonna when you brought me in here you told me everyone was sarcastic. You didn't mention some people were downright nasty.

Apparently I must have done something to annoy Miss Jasmine to the point where she feels it necessary to count the number of "thought provoking" conversations I've brought to the table.
