Day 1 cont. (Tue 3/9)
We had rented MIL an ECV from Randy's Mobility due to her back and lack of endurance. There was no way she was going to make it around WDW. Anyhow, they were running late and couldn't make it to our hotel before we were leaving. We had a PS for Chef Mickey's I didn't want to miss. So they meet us at the Contemporary, which I thought was really accomodating of them.
Anyhow, DH and MIL go through the lessons of using and transporting the EVC. DH was going to put it in the van. Figuring the lobby to Chef Mickeys was a good walk for MIL. He really wanted to try and get her moving alittle. She refused. She was going to get her moeny's worth on the EVC. So now he's all tense and frustrated. Not the way I wanted to start off our arrival dinner.
We get seated quickly and the characters start coming right away. As always the food was great, the desserts were better!! MIL complained about the prices and noise. She was forewarned about both. Her and her boyfriend frequent many buffets. The type that are like $4.99 for all you can eat prime rib. You know the kind--- cooked road kill. Anyhow, I did my best to ignore the mumblings. Even after she hit my shin w/ her cane for the 4th time!!!
She starts sticking her head into every picture I'm taking of the characters and DS. I'm not liking this pattern. I really don't need her in every shot!! Wasn't sure how to handle this---so I tried moving DS over more and started cutting her out of the shot!
On the way back to the mini van MIL didn't take into consideration that she'd need to get the scooter off the sidewalk. She comes to curb and looks baffled-- like how dare disney build a curb!! She proceeds to get of the scooter and lifts the front end down over the curb. In the meantime the canopy goes crashing off the scooter onto her. DH was up opening the van and didn't witness this at first. I'm evil I'll admit it because I seen it out of the corner of my eye, but looked like I hadn't!! Once DH notices he runs to her rescue. To make things even better, I was videotaping the contemporary outside when this all happened-- I have it in the corner of the video on tape.
We were heading to DTD for some shopping after dinner. On the ride over MIL and I had our first little snafu when she wanted to smoke. First, you can't smoke in rental cars (she tells me that's what Febreeze is for). Secondly DS and I were both getting over colds. I also have asthma-- and smoke can set me into an attack. DH is a smoker and won't smoke around me. He tells her she has to wait. Hey-- One win for me. So since the airport I think her and I are 1 and 1.
She decides to sit out DTD-- she's gonna "nap" in the van. So shopping was a lot of fun!! When we returned to the van it reaked of smoke!! That witch!! Anyhow, back to the hotel and bed--- tomorrow it's off to the MK!!!
