Hello!

I am a former ride wimp who took years to work my way up (at WDW) to Goofy's Barnstormer, BTMRR, Splash Mountain, and Test Track. I now adore each of those.

I've tried Space Mountain and Expedition Everest and didn't love them -- a bit too much for me.

SO -- any advice on the Matterhorn? Where would you put it on this scale? My family is eager for it to be our first ride when we step into the MK, but I'd like to have a sense of how that might go for me.

Thanks!

I think you will be fine. My DH is a ride wimp - he won't even go on BTMRR - and he went on with no problem.

Agreed. DGD8 isn't fond of BTMRR - too rough. But she loves Matterhorn. Try it, you'll like it.

Hint - there are two lines, or sometimes one line that splits in two when it reaches the covered area. These lead to separate loading lines, one for the Fantasyland side (to the right as you stand in front) and one for the Tomorrowland side (left). The Fantasyland side is slightly more gentle.

The Matterhorn is closest to BTMRR with less ups and downs and more side turns. And it's jerkier. I like it WAY more than EE and Space.

I would compare it to BTMRR too. It is a bit jolty though, not quite as smooth as the BTMRR but my 3 year old adored the matterhorn.

Ride wimp here too! :cool1: and proud! :lmao:

Expedition everest is a NO NO!!!!! for me. I cant even look at the ride without shuttering. However I do love BTMRR and Space.

Splash is a bit too much for me also, havent been on since I was five and dont plan to return on it anytime soon.

Matterhorn does get a bit jerky around the edges but not large drops (one small dip) and not too fast. I love the ride and it doesnt scare me one bit.

you shouldnt have any problem with it, I think BTMRR is alot bigger and worse even though I love that ride too!

It is fairly tame, but really jerky. One way to minimize the impact (and bruises on your knees) is to sit alone (or with a small child). DO NOT put two adults in the same car. You will regret it. When you get to the loading dock, just ask for 4 singles or however many are in your party. Or if you have two riding together and two needing singles, tell them 2 and 2 singles.

I have to agree with the PP, two adults to a car was painful by the end and the stop caused DBF's nose to connect with the back of my head. :sad2:

I would say it's much more tame than BTMRR. It was on par for jerkiness as WDW's Space Mountain (not comparable in other ways but the roughness as both left me bruised). There was a 'ride wimp' in front of us in line who was going to just watch while her husband rode alone, but we talked her into it and she did fine. She was scared to ride BTMRR or Space, to give you an idea.

All that said, we didn't like Matterhorn and rode each side once, just to be sure. It just is too rough for our tastes and you don't get enough speed/drops to really make the pain worth it, in our view. Glad we tried it though as neither of us had rode it before.

Great ride but def more jarring than i had bargined.

Something to consider, one thing I wasn't aware of is the rider placement. My (at the time) newly teen son was mortified to be placed in same seat as me, made for quite an awkward ride 1st trip. We knew better the 2nd time;)

Agree with previous posters! By the way, I recognize your family pic from reading your WDW dining reviews. I hope you have a great trip to Disneyland!

I think you will enjoy it. I prefer the ride from Fantasyland side, specially during the nighttime.

The recently renew the bobsleds & now they have single seats.

If you read the end of the blog post it says as of 8/30/11 the ride reopened, but was still using the old bobsleds. It was believed the new sleds are being tested, but not used yet.

So, depending on when you are going, who knows which cars will be up and running. :)

My warmest thanks to one and all! What a delight to get home from work today and find all these incredibly helpful and thorough answers!

I am definitely going to give it a go, and I think to be thorough we'll be sure to ride both sides. Our trip is next April and I'm just working to put all my insane WDW planning skills to use in the new-to-me environment...:thumbsup2

Well, for all that working up your nerve, I hate to tell you that the rumour is Matterhorn will be down for the first 6 months next year. I'm not sure why it would take that long to put new cars on the tracks, but that is what I have read in a couple other threads.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, or maybe explain why it would take to long to put on new cars. I think they have already redone the tracks.

And I'm wondering if it is any smoother with a new track?

Was the new track why it was down this summer? It wasn't terribly smooth at all (the opposite actually) when we rode in September right after the refurb ended. We hadn't rode it before but if what we rode in September is the 'new' track, I would say, no, it's not smoother. But the track didn't look all that new to me... It looked really old actually.

Kinda funny. I used to LOVE matterhorn, but with CA Screaming BTMRR and other roller coasters, I find Matterhorn kinda boring. It's not that bad at all

The post Holidays refurb is still a rumor so don't count on it, wait and see what happens.

They did during the summer work on the tracks. Don't expect it to somehow get miracously smoother. It has the same path and the up downs and turns are all still there.
