WDW to KSC to Universal - car hire Q

We're planning on spending Sun-Thurs (check out Friday morning) at a WDW hotel. Picking up a hire car on Fri morning, or Thurs night, and spending Friday at Kennedy Space Center. Friday night, we're checking into a Universal hotel, and spending the weekend there. Monday we'll fly iut to our next destination.

We will either take the hire car back Fri night, or possibly use it to get back to MCOon the Monday morning.

Is this do-able? Crazy? Are there better options?
We are 3 adults and one child (8yo).
