I did not book transfer between WDW to DCL and just wondering should I rent car from downtown disney or take ME to MCO and then rent a car from MCO.
Thanks in advance for all the advices.

It depends on how much you are willing to pay. When we cruised in September, I rented a car at the Car Care Center (WDW property), we drove it to the port and parked it at the port. Then we drove back to the airport when we returned from the cruise. It ended up being not much more than doing 2 one-way rentals.

There is a Avis at Hilton downtown Disney. It is right across the street from Earl of Sandwich. I was told they will even pickup at hotels.

At Port Canaveral they have shuttle to the pier. Atlantic Ave is just one long strip, very easy to find. I have a harder time finding my way in and out of the airport in a car rental. We are doing one way rentals in December.

Budget also have shuttle's in Cape Canaveral; but Doubletree Hotel might be a little further walk from Downtown Marketplace.

Recent report states that National have a Cocoa Beach location and offers shuttle but this is just hear say.

Taking ME back to MCO to just get a rental will cost you quite a bit of time and may not be worth the hassle.

I don't know if National does a shuttle, but that will probably be a great option. You might want to call and ask since it'll be the most convienent while on property (offers a shuttle around Disney for pick up/drop off). There is one at the WDW care center and one at the Dolphin. You can always take a cab back to port from National if they do not offer a shuttle and you find there rates worth it to you.

Like the OP said - Avis is just in DTD and is very close to the port. This would be a good option as well. Their one way rental rates are terrific!

Remember when you do a rental and plan to park at the port you'll have to factor in the $12 a day to park. Doing 2 one way rentals could be the cheapest option.

You can also hire a town car service. I just had to throw that in for good measure.

Similar question: Do you think it would be too time consuming to take a rental from port back to MCO to drop off the car, and hop on ME to go to Disney?

I wonder how many times you can use ME on one trip. I thought you use them coming in and going back to MCO. I think you may be talking about 4 times. If that were possible you would pay about $55.00 less than if you went straight to Disney from the Port. To me it seems like a hassle considering luggage and walking time.

To me it's too time consuming. You've paid for the rental and there are places in DTD to drop it off without the hassle of going to MCO. The cost difference between MCO and DTD aren't there. I've looked at that!

I personally didn't want to wait for a rental on the way back so I booked a private SUV transfer. One other time I rented a SUV for the week and parked it at port. We had 4 different legs that trip and did WDW before and after our cruise. The SUV transfer I recently booked was a bit more than a rental, but I was passing by all the people waiting in the car rental line waiting for that shuttle to come and get them. It was worth it to me. I hear you can spend up to an hour. Some report to breeze in and out. Some think an hour is no big deal. I guess it depends on the time of year and when you get to the shuttle line. I don't mind inbound, but if I'm on my way to Disney every hour counts to me.

Edd - I don't think there is any limitation in using ME. You just need to have a reservation with a Disney resort and be booked to use the service. I think some other cruisers have done this but it's just never made much sense to me to do this. You're making a pit stop and adding more time to get on the bus. When I priced a rental between MCO and DTD it was cheaper to drop it off at DTD. :confused3

We were one of those unfortunate people who we drove from WDW to DCL and got a flat tire along the way. It wasn't the best way to start an extended family Christmas cruise...arriving late and harried at the port. Next time we'll just take the DCL transfers!

Here's what we'd like to do: Following our Disney cruise we have tagged a few days on at ASMu at WDW. We'd like to send our luggage on to the resort but take some form of transportation to the Kennedy Space Centre ourselves and return to our resort after 5 p.m.

Anyone ever done this? Any suggestions? I'd rather not have to deal with storing our luggage while visiting the space centre... :confused3

I think they have excursions post cruise and the Space Center being one of them. Maybe if you book it through Disney they'll take your luggage and provide your transportation to the Space Center and back to the resort. Otherwise, I don't think you can pay for the transfer to use for luggage service only. It is a good question though. I wonder if anyone has been successful on the way you'd like to do it?
