That's another good point, though. As good a job as WDW can do with social distancing and masks, they can't prevent someone from taking off their mask in a bathroom and getting other people sick.

Sounds like you have a good plan. Assuming, of course that you live close enough to WDW to not have to take a plane home, or encounter anyone by stopping for a restroom, gas, or food break on the drive home. Glad you're planning on strictly quarantining for 14 days when you get home and that your roommate will be doing that too, so that you don't infect him (her?) and s/he doesn't unwittingly infect others. I'm just concerned that others may not be as careful as you are planning on being.

I will be flying in, but granted my trip isn't planned until the end of August so I'm hoping the situation will be much better in Florida by then. Still, I don't condemn those going this month.

Most states aren't tracing or even asking if people have been to protests or large gatherings. What we do know is that cases are up for the younger demographic that fits the same demographic that is protesting age wise.

We also know that of the NBA players who have tested positive, guys like Malcolm Brogdan (Indiana), Jabari Parker (Sacaramento) actually traveled to protest or went to a large gathering Tennis tournament in Sebria (Nicola Jokovic)

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that large gathering non social distancing protests, riots, conventions, tennis tournaments are super spreaders. There is a reason that we can't have large gathering spectators or fans at concerts or sporting events.

You're skipping over my point that if protests were the cause, we should see spikes in every major city where they are occurring. We aren't. We ARE seeing it in cities where they are opening restaurants, bars, and there are large college parties which all also skew to a younger crowd. Ergo, people are blaming the latter rather than the former.

It is absolutely shocking to me that protests didn't cause a spike, but based on the data you are certainly correct.

I was shocked over it myself, but it appears that it didn't cause anything signficant. As I have said on other threads--this is good news and should allow us to feel a little bit better getting outdoors and socializing that way.

Florida's cases per capita is right at the national average, and deaths per capita is less than half the national average.

You have a very valid point here. Although I think I'm more concerned about the upswing in cases per day right now than I am about the total per capita.

DeSantis just shut this down. WDW will open.

“The theme parks have been doing great. We have to have society function… in a way that can keep people safe. Disney, I have no doubt is going to be a safe environment. I have looked at Disney’s plan and it is very, very thorough.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis

It's not DIsney you should worry about, Ron. It's the people visiting. Even when Disney has a perfect plan on how to encourage people to wear their masks, it's all in the execution.
As soon as people are out of sight a CM / guard, like inside a queue etc. there will be people taking off their masks and standing closer to each other. There is probably no CCTV in all places of the queue.

I mean his state cant really get too much worse. I guess he's not too concerned about what people take home with them.

"The hundreds of contact tracing workers hired by the city under de Blasio’s new “test and trace” campaign have been instructed not to ask anyone who’s tested positive for COVID-19 whether they recently attended a demonstration, City Hall confirmed to THE CITY. "

That literally doesn't matter, since we haven't had an uptick in cases.

Exactly.
It's odd to keep hearing people claim they are being mislead, but there are ways to get to the bottom of the truth.

NYC area protests had very good mask compliance. With all the increased testing happening, we find NO surge in case rates, which made it irrelevant what people answer to exposure questions. Obstinate people will believe what they want though and blame their ignorance on the media or science.

First death numbers were questioned and some still think they're phony.
Mortality - Ppl who don't believe what's been reported? Take a look yourself.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htmPlay around with the filters. One of the great things in the US is ALL deaths are reported no matter what. Select your options and let it rip. Interesting things pop out.

Ooooh, it can get worse! Infection & death rates can still go up, but what would hurt him probably more if there is a state (or states) tracing thoroughly and discovers that all new infections are related to people visiting tourist attractions in Florida. Imagine the panic that could arise in the Disney or another park board room if their park is the common denominator.

They are opening, 100%. I don't think there is anything outside of a cat5 hurricane that would shut them down now. (and I haven't checked the radar but I don't see one coming)

I hope everyone just puts their personal whatever aside and follows the rules. I want this to work, even though I'm skeptical it will.

Another week of the numbers that they had last week and the restaurants will shut down.

I think the only thing that will derail an opening now is if the NBA gets cold feet and decides not to send people there tomorrow. I seriously doubt that will happen.

Add 6k to Florida COVID-19 today. 206,000+ total
One day's statistics are meaningless, and yesterday's 6,000+ was actually a significant drop as you can see from the chart below.

Saturday's total of more than 11,000 was the most cases we've ever had in a single day, but it's even more dramatic if you look back further. Seven of the last 11 days have been >8,000 new cases.

Relevant to WDW, both Orange County and Osceola County (Kissimmee) have been spiking dramatically for the last couple of weeks with both new cases and positive test percentages going way up.
