We will have to disagree.
I think it's common sense that large gathering non social distancing protests and conventions are super spreaders. You don't.

It's not what you *think*. There are facts. The fact is there is no data to show that the protests caused a surge in cases. Sure, some people did get sick at a protest. I know of 7 National Guardsman who did. But it did not cause the incredible surge we are seeing now because of blatant disregard for safety in indoor locations.

Based on what I’ve been reading, (even if I hadn’t previously been infected) I’d hit up Florida and WDW in a heartbeat.

Globally, 99% of the less than 5 million active cases are mild. Considering how high the death rate was 3 months ago (at least 3% or higher depending who you asked), it really looks much better today.

In Fl with confirmed cases on the rise (over 10k/day) and a CDC estimated 6x-24x more unreported cases (nearly all thought to be mild), the death rate is remaining steady at about 50-60/day. That’s 99.4% - 99.5% recovering NOT including the unreported cases. Counting those, it’s more like 99.9% - 99.975% recovering. That’s for Florida. Many states are doing better. In NC, half the deaths happened early on in nursing homes, with folks who were unfortunately already frail and/or sick. My Aunt is in a nursing home, and she’s been okay, but it’s not a pretty site on the best of days, as she is extremely frail.

In the end, you have to take ownership for yourself. If you’re not comfortable leaving the house or you‘re high risk, then your safety is and always had been your responsibility. That said, I give everyone a wide berth, because I think gatherings, whether masked or not are a big factor in the spread, and I don’t know your health.

Think a 'mild' case of Covid-19 doesn’t sound so bad? Think again

Mild cases mean you aren't in the ICU. Not that you don't have permanent and terrible damage.

Just to put this out there and to think about it for a minute. For those that are going to Disney soon you probably have a good chance of getting Covid even with all the measures in place. I'm not saying for you not to go. My health is more important then some vacation at this point.
While I think this is a little dramatic, I don't disagree with you about there being a risk going to Disney World. However I'm confused - were you not telling all of us we should be going to amusement parks near us if they weren't in hot spots just a few days ago? But your health is more important than a vacation? I'm not sure if you understand the way these contradictory statements come across, but you're essentially telling Americans our health isn't more important - as long as we're not going to hot spots. Why would you not risk your health for a vacation at the same time encouraging the rest of us to go?

Yes I did say that. In case you hadn't noticed Florida is a hot spot right now hence me not wanting to go there. If Disney was in NY I wouldn't be saying what I said as I feel most of NY state is safe now. I would go to my local park if it was open right now as we aren't a hot spot.

I wouldn't say that's entirely true about the death rate remaining steady. With the spikes there is a lag in cases to translation to mortality rates. We will have to wait and see. I hope they do stay steady, or actually that they go down. We will see how it plays out.

large gathering non social distancing protests and conventions are bad.
Dr Faucii tells us this and I tend to believe him over non scientists/doctors.

No one is saying they aren't bad. When I saw all of the outdoor protests, I was horrified and was bracing for some huge spike. It didn't happen. What that tells us is that outdoor gatherings are much, much better than indoor. Not foolproof or no-risk, for sure. But better.

I’ve shown you links to studies in the past on here. No need to keep pretending not to know by now.
This isn't false though. What that person said isnt true. Getting a "mild" case of covid can indeed result in just a headache for some, for example. The person they were responding to said even if you get a mild case of covid, you'd have major permanent impacts on your health, which is indeed fear mongering.

Come on -- all studies show there is a very wide spectrum on how different people's bodies respond to the virus, on top of other environmental factors. Please acknowledge that.

Also, not false.
You can have major permanent impacts even with mild cases. It’s been documented in science and medical journals. Obviously, you need a full health checkup, including CTs. But, that’s very resource intensive and thus you don’t hear of it often. How many people willing to pay co-pay or out of pocket for a CT after a mild case? Almost none, period.

We will 100% be refusing any housekeeping! Get to your room, air it out/ disinfect yourself etc. I am bringing our own toiletries, sheets, blankets, towels.....to each their own, but this is my plan. Have a good trip😊

We feel exactly the same! But we were talking about this in another thread, what about the daily WDW security visits? Have those been stopped?

I’m not going to argue with you, but many of you assume anyone who is going is an absolute idiot who is going to go see their sick grandmother immediately after boarding the plane. Please know many of us are smarter than that and your situation does not reflect everyone elses. I live with one roommate and have no choice but to quarantine upon return. Which I will do. And I’m sure many others will as well if necessary.

Sounds like you have a good plan. Assuming, of course that you live close enough to WDW to not have to take a plane home, or encounter anyone by stopping for a restroom, gas, or food break on the drive home. Glad you're planning on strictly quarantining for 14 days when you get home and that your roommate will be doing that too, so that you don't infect him (her?) and s/he doesn't unwittingly infect others. I'm just concerned that others may not be as careful as you are planning on being.
