WDW Shocks the Coffee Industry

That sounds like a nice French Press. I got mine at Target for $14.99.

Looked there, they didn't have any then :( . Oh well, mine gets loaned out a lot for other peoples camping trips, so at least we're getting our money's worth...

It's just a bit big to fit in a suitcase if you're flying and trying to pack light. But don't think I can go back to WDW and drink the coffee again..... I really didn't think I was a coffee snob, but now I"m not so sure

Please do something - this liquid Nescafe is a joke. I do love the Kona coffee at the Poly - we always buy a few bags. There is also Starbucks at the Dolphin.

The Starbucks coffee at Tubbi's is another good reason to stay at the Swan/Dolphin. We buy the refillable mug and have free refills of Starbucks and soda all week--one of the few good deals we get on our trip, along with the teacher/govt. discount rate at the Swan/Dolphin.

Beachangel--are you sure she had the 100% Kona Press Pot? I have enjoyed that coffee at the Kona Cafe a dozen times and it has always been rich and delicious. Can't imagine what they served your poor Mom! [/B]

I don't think so. She just ordered coffee ~ I didn't know we had to specifically request Kona. We're heading back again in October so we'll get it right then. Thanks!

Regarding what bru_ellman said about Starring Rolls, ABSOLUTELY TRUE. We were there this summer, and I ran in there to get some ice. I saw that they were promoting iced coffee. I got a cup of it with cream, no sugar. It was so good, that I went back in to talk to the girls working there, and I told them, "This is the best coffee I have had in a long time." The reason it is, is that they actually roast the beans right there. She showed me the machine. My husband and I always try to look for coffee machines at WDW that have the beans right on top, like at The Fountainview Cafe. But this was soooo much better, because whoever does the roasting at Starring Rolls really knows their job.

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I think I can sympathize. Do you realize that most of the tea in this United States anymore comes out of a fountain machine? Including that served at Disney World. To my astonishment, the tea being served at the ASMo when we were there in November was the real McCoy. Anyway, the first thing I do at Epcot is buy a box of English Breakfast tea at the Tea Shop in Great Britain and use the in room coffee pot to make my own. Just pour it over a glass of ice cubes, and you've got the best iced tea you ever poured down your gullet!

I'm a big fan of the small coofee roasting companies. As a matter of fact I just ordered some on line this morning from my favorite roaster Karma Coffee located in Wellesley MA. My order will be roased today and shipped tonight. Can't get much fresher than that. I love the smell of grinding and brewing fresh beans.

Have you checked out sweetmarias.com. You can roast your own beans. Doesn't get much fresher than that - although it takes some practice so you don't burn them.

I suspect one of the biggest motivators towards DVC for us was a kitchen with a coffee maker and a fridge. Not only are we coffee snobs (Starbucks! Mass produced dreck! - see coffee snobs) but we also like real cream or at least half and half in our coffee.

(But Starbucks would be good corporate sponsorship - Disney isn't going to partner with anyone smaller, and the coffee is at least more acceptable - unfortunately, Nestle is giving them ALOT of money in sponsorship of The Land, so I don't see it happening anytime soon).

Good to know about Starring Rolls!

If anyone is interested, you can get a bit of "coffee education" and order some excellent coffee at www.lacascoffee.com.

They have a very good Kona Blend and their Dark Roast is out of this world if you like it strong, but not burnt or bitter.

just as an aside, for those of you who like french roast strength coffee, how much do you measure into your french press? I've recently gotten one, but am not having much luck figuring out amount and time to steep.

Back to the conversation, when we got the kona press coffee, the water was just above lukewarm, and the server steeped it barely long enough for the water to turn tan. Ended up sending it back.

the french press coffee at Boma was perfect.

Usually, letting it steep 4-5 minutes give you a rich coffee taste in my french press (with French Roasted coffee). I pretty much make a whole pot at a time as mine has no marks for # cups. Used a coffee carafe of water to measure how much it holds, then measured coffee to match that amount of water (6 and 8 cup models seem to be common).

Hope that helps

thanks. Do you go with the standard one tablespoon per "coffecup" of water?

You know I have this fantasy of hundreds of coffee gourmets descending upon the finest restaurants with their own little generators, electric kettles, bean grinders, and press pots. That would get Disney's attention!

Yes, pretty much - but I like strong, rich coffee (your results may vary, yadda yadda)
Just thinking about the Nescafe stuff makes me shudder - and it's been a month since we were at WDW.....

Even worse, they don't use Florida Orange juice!
Nothing like supporting a Florida industry that is hurting so badly.
