We've all seen them.

Big purple and red signs reading "Disney/MGM Studios - Next Right" or "EPCOT Resorts - Next Left".

They were created by the firm of Sussman/Prezja, hired by Eisner, who had liked the work they had done in LA for the '84 Olympics.

Am I the only person who thinks they are really boring? Sure, they're just road signs and they do the job they were created for, but with all the amazing graphics that exist throughout the property, I've always thought they could have come up with a better design.

What do you think? Thumbs up or thumbs down on the road signs?

Honestly, I like them. The colors, to me, are the first sign that I'm in Disney. They're road signs. Honestly, laws may prevent them from being really "flashy" since they are there to serve a purpose.

Agree. Otherwise they would look like a billboard or ad and ignored.
In some places I wish there were better markings. Now that we know our way around, it is not that big of a deal. But in some areas, if looking for a specific turnoff sign, it can be very confusing.

I think they are just "OK." I do agree that they maybe could be updated a bit or something.

I love them! I really like that they are just like regular road signs, except for the colors.

Given that they ARE road signs and the Disney is probably somewhat limited by the government as to what they can do, I must say I like them. They are easy to identify and read and are helpful. Graphics and other "stuff" on them would be distracting. When I'm driving and trying to figure out where to go, I just want plain old signs with nothing to detract from the information.

I'm sure many of us have been to WDW many times and already know our way around. We don't need the signs for information and would like to see them jazzed up. But remember, most people don't have a clue where they are going and need the basic information. There are already enough distractions when driving on Disney property.

Also keep in mind that the signs have to be clear and readable to everyone -- including visitors who may have a minimal command of English. To add more flash and dazzle to them could make them difficult for foreign visitors to read and could actually cause some driving hazards as people slow down to try and figure out what the signage means.

Signs? What signs? Man...all I see is a blur of trees, cars and pavement as I haul butt to the parks. I don't believe I've ever thought twice about the signs, their placement or colors...I'm at WDW, baby!!

I have always loved the signs. I even made a replica painted with Ultraviolet sensitive paint.

WDW is it's own government and they have total autonomy over the property. That is one of the things the state of Florida gave up in bringing WDW here.

I believe if the road signs were more graphic they may be hard for people to read & comprehend as they are driving. Sometimes less is more :D

Here is the only picture I could find. It's a little rainy and only of the high ones. The nicer ones are the smaller onew with the Mickey Ears and the ones with wide diagonal blue support.

Well, my image doesn't seem to work.

It is from the book "Since The World Began" page 141. The book was released for the 25th anniversary.

Is that what the signs originaly looked like. If so I like them much more nowadays. I think that Mickey looks much too childish and 80's like.

The biggest problem with the signs is not that they are boring, but that there aren't signs for things that you are looking for. For example, there are no signs for Old Key West at all coming into the property from 536, yet the third exit takes you directly there. In addition, it would be nice if the signs had road names, since it's much easier to give directions using road names.
