WDW Resort Pools: Where bathing suits go to die?

Has this happened to anyone else, or is it just my luck? We stayed at VWL in Feb. 2004. After one dip in the hot tub, my (admittedly older) bathing suit had patches where the fabric became see-through. I didn't think much of it at the time because the suit was fairly old although not worn through prior to this.

We stayed at Pop Century last month, and the same thing happened to another suit after spending some time in the pool. It too was a little old, but hadn't shown any signs of wear up until then.

I'm about to buy a brand-new suit, but I'm a little frightened to wear it the next time we stay at a WDW resort. Have I just been unlucky or might this have something to do with chlorine levels at the resort pools? Was it simply my suits' time to die and it's just a coincidence that both gave up the ghost at WDW?

I found the same happened to my bathing suit too. I tend to arrive prepared and bring 3 different ones. I also don't bother to spend a lot of money on them because I know they are likely to bite the dust!

Edie :)

this didn't happen to me at DW, and i spent quite a bit of time in the GF hot tub (pool too, but mostly hot tub). BUT i have had this happen in other hotel hot tubs. i've been told that since the water is hot, they have to use even more chlorine than in a pool. since then i NEVER wear a good bathingsuit in a hotel hot tub.

not sure why the pool would have done that to your suit, unless someone just added too much chlorine by accident? :confused3 i wouldn't wear your new bathingsuit in the hot tub, but you should be okay in the pool.

have fun!

I havent had those problems. If we're going to assume that isnt not the you simply did not notice the thinning out before your trip, and I were going to make an uneducated guess, I would say its the age of the suit combined with what is probably a higher level of chlorine (WDW is going to be extra sure that folks dont get sick from low levels of chlorine). I have not worn an older suit to WDW, but I always rinse them thoroughly after swimming. Eventually all my most worn suits thin out in places.

I haven't had this problem at either AKL or CSR, but the baby pool at our club pool at home bleaches out ALL suits with its high levels of chlorine. I can't tell you how many cute suits my dd has gone through!

It's funny you'd ask. I got out dd's swimsuit last week (hasn't been used since our WDW trip last fall) and was like "Where did all these holes come from?". My guess would be age/chlorine too.

Last night I was packing for my trip (tomorrow!) and had to throw out my favorite bathing suit for exactly that reason. It looked like I spent too much time sitting on the cement bottom of pool. I thought it was just me being lazy in the pool. Now I can blame the chlorine!

No problems at the Poly in April with any of our suits. If that is happening there is something very wrong...I was a lifeguard all through college and maintained pools. I wouldn't want to swim in a pool that could eat through fabric!!! :rotfl2:

I just now bought two swimsuits online because of this thread! I took a look at my old suit & decided that it was only a matter of time until it bites the dust (probably while I would have been wearing it :scared1: !)

Thanks for saving me from the dreaded DSS..."Disintegrating Swimsuit Syndrome" :goodvibes .

agnes!

Last year I was in the Lazy River at TL. I was wearing a black bikini. I went 3 times around and then got out. My bottom was gray, while my top was still black.
It was my favorite suit but it was worth it!
