Also a Michigander; we typically went in late February. In my experience, there are three temperatures at WDW in the winter:
  • Warm: Warm enough that everyone is willing to swim.
  • Kid-Warm: Kids will get in the pool, adults watch.
  • Cold: No one swims.
In late February, over the course of a full week, there are usually a couple of Warm days, and a couple of Kid-Warm days---some years warmer than others. In January, figure there will be fewer Warm days, and maybe or maybe not the same number of Kid-Warm days.

I had a lovely cold evening in the pool with my 6 year old last December. It was quite chilly and cold light rain was coming down. We had the AKL pool to ourselves and it was warm in the water. We bring robes for as soon as we get out! I'd rather be in a warm pool on a chilly day than a cold pool on a summer day.

If it is 70 degrees I lay by the pool . If it’s over 73, I’m in the pool. Seldom there is never a time when it always below those temps during any weeklong stay during Floridas “winter months”

I'm from New York City.
I regularly go to WDW in early December and early/mid January.
I've been there when my entire stay I'm in a winter jacket, so no pool, although could be few people in the pool. I've been there when every day of my stay I've gone into the pool, and there are plenty of people in the pool. Don't forget, the pools are heated to 80 degrees.
On the other hand, I've been there in a winter jacket, and there are kids in the pool.
The thing I find amazing is that I've been there and sitting in the sun would get too hot. So I'd move into the shade, only to get too cold. So back and forth I go.

We usually travel in winter. During our non park days we go to the pool unless it's really cold, even to sit under the sun (we live in the northeast, so we're used to the cold). We swim if it's a warm day. If it's a bit chilly, we spend a lot of time in the hot tub.

For those that typically visit WDW in the Winter Months, particularly December and January: how often, if ever, do you utilize the resort pools during those months? Obviously weather plays a big part in the conversation here, but "warm enough to swim" is a bit subjective, so I'm just curious. 🤔🙂
We’re in WDW every January & February, and I use the pools and hot tubs at every resort we visit. There have only been a few times when temps were too cold for more than a few days…
It also hasn’t rained much on our Jan/Feb trips.

This is a late response but we have went swimming in Jan many times. Wife usually does very little and sits back. The issue we ran into while at Bay Lake and Grand Flo was how bad the wind off the lake can get. That really punishes you when above water level especially if rain is in the forecast. The water is usually warm enough and the kids have fun mostly.
