Every year, I always end up with a rash on my arms. It usually starts about the third or fourth day and only gets worse as the days go by. I usually wear jeans, except maybe every third day when I wear shorts, and I never have a problem with a rash on my legs (which is usually what I read about here on the boards). I never can figure out if it's an allergic reaction to the sun or sunscreen. So I don't know what to do differently. It seems to happen after an accumulation of several days of exposure to the sun or sunscreen. It gets particularly itchy when I'm hot, especially when the sun is beating down on my arms. I don't know what to do other than wear long-sleeved shirts which would be crazy in early summer. I have fair skin and blue eyes. Any suggestions?

Just wondering if you use the H2O wash products in the DVC resorts? I know of few people who are allergic to them.
I have a shellfish allergy and can not use them.
I do bring them home for family and friends who love them.

Like PP said, maybe you are allergic to the soaps Disney provides. I have allergic reactions to laundry detergent and fabric softener sometimes. I get small little bumps on my arms that itch. So maybe you are allergic to something they wash their towels or linens with? If they itch I would put cortizone cream on it. Or maybe take some non-drowsy benadryl/allergy medicine to help. Thats what I usually do if I come in contact with laundry detergent or fabric softener that gives me a rash. I hope this helps :)

Me too.
For me it is absolutely sun related. I may have narrowed it down to the sunscreen I was using.
My legs are fine like yours, but my arms get it bad. I also wear v-neck t-shirts so I get it on my chest. It's raised lumps, like small mosquito bites. They don't itch, but they do look terrible. Almost like hives??
I don't get it at home, but I don't spend anywhere near the same amount of time outside in the sun as I do when we're on vacation.

ETA) Just saw you are fare skinned and blue eyed like me as well. It can be hard to determine if it's the sun or the sunscreen. Try a strong sunblock.. not sunscreen. The less chemicals the better. I found that worked better on the last trip.

I'm also a fair skin with blue eyes and natural pale red hair. I used to suffer badly from the same and it turns out it was a heat rash caused by prolonged exposure to the sun. Very itchy and hot to the touch. Again not on my legs but my chest arms and backs of my hands.

My mum used to get it too so badly on her hands that she had to wear cotton gloves one holiday.

I buy strong 30+ sensative sunscreen and find that helps but its not 100%. I wear a Tshirt at the water parks. There are some people I know who use the stronger child/baby sun screen and they swear by it.

Staying if possible out of the sun at the peak of they day helps too.

During our 2010 Disney trip, and after a morning at Blizzard Beach, I came down with a rash that was all over my body and itchy! It was very uncomfortable. It seemed to get worse when I was hot. I suspect it was extended exposure to the sun and maybe the chlorine at the water park. It gradually went away over time, but I was pretty miserable while it lasted.

My DS gets a rash from the linens, so we bring a set of sheets from home and write a note to Mousekeeping to leave one of the beds alone.

I get a rash on my legs every single time I go to Disney. I didn't get it the first four or five trips. After that I got it every trip. It appears on the third or fourth day and hangs around until a week or so after I get home. I haven't gotten it anywhere except my legs, mostly from the knees down. :confused3

It can't be the sunscreen, because I use that at home too and never get a rash. I'm not sure about the soap products. I don't think I always use them, but I can't remember for sure. If I do use them, it would be everywhere, not just on my legs, lol.

I have a medium skin tone, with dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. I am not prone to sunburn and I tan pretty easily. I do still wear sunscreen though, because I will burn in the Florida sun even if I don't burn at home (I wear sunscreen at home too though, just to be safe).

Might be sun poison... had it happen last time we were in Florida. Dr. diagnosed it as excessive exposure to the sun and recommended sunscreen.

If you take certain types of meds it can be worse.

We've used many different sunscreens over the years and my kids got a rash with only one brand - Banana Boat. I give it equal chances it's the sun or the sunscreen, (or the combo).

I too get rashes from two sources. One the sun, I can get an allergic reaction from it. The other problem I had is from meds. A couple different meds I have taken in the past including a BP medication causes a sensitivity rash.

I get that occasionally, not so much now as the last few years. For me it's a skin condition called PMLE, it's a sensitivity to ultraviolet rays. He told me to use bread spectrum sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB. Of course that may not be your problem at all.

Yu may want to look up "prickly heat rash". I get it on every tropical holiday, but never here at home. I think it has to do with humidity and the prolonged sun exposure.

Good Luck! I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

My daughter gets it when we go...we use Ivory and bring some from home. We also use Neutrogena spf 45. Lotion, not the spray. We have narrowed it down to the fact that she is using sunscreen everyday for 5-7 days straight. Never does she use SS that frequently.

Sounds like sun poison to me. I have very sensitive skin and have to take all of my own products from home. I get the rash when I'm in the sun too many days in a row no matter what I do. Sunscreen doesn't make a difference in whether I get the rash. I have to be very careful of the kind of sunscreen I use do to getting a rash just because of the sunscreen ingredients. I was wondering do you use a self tanning lotion. Those tanning lotions give me rashes even when I don't go in the sun. I had to stop using them.

It could be any of the following:

1. Sun Poisining: Use sunblock if you don't already, and take breaks from the heat by chilling in shows or stores.

2. Your Clothes: Wash your clothes. Dirty clothes might cause rashes.

3. THE SOAP AT THE HOTEL: I'm 60% sure it's this. Some soaps from hotels give me rashes.

It sounds like a heat/sun rash to me. I don't think it could be the soaps because it isn't affecting the OP's legs, which are covered. It's only affecting areas which are exposed to the sun. If it were the soaps, it should be affecting everywhere that was exposed to the soap.

I have a shellfish allergy and can not use them.]

My mother-in-law will be Going with me to WDW this fall and is allergic to shellfish. Are these soaps really bad for people with said allergies? Seems weird to me, but I'm not allergic. Please advise. :confused3

I've heard of this sun rash on people lower legs from the reflections of the sun off of the concrete walkways, plus the prolonged sun exposure.

I used to get it on my face and figured out it was the sunscreen (Clinique sunscreen for the face) that was drying my skin to the point of a rash. =(

The description of the rash sounds exactly like the reaction my dd has to sunscreen. She's very sensitive to certain chemicals (haven't figured out exaclty which ones yet) so I have to be very particular with what I use.

Try switching sunscreens. Most of the ones she can use are not available in usual stores, but there is one that is. Water Babies Pure and Simple or Coppertone Kids Pure and Simple. It's the same formulation, just in different bottles. It goes on kind of white because it contains Zinc Oxide, but it's worth a try.

Also, take the max dose of Benadryl when you go to bed and also rub some cortisone cream (not Benadryl cream) on the area at night. That will help calm the rash down.

Good luck!
