WDW & Pregnant: What would You do?

Old words of wisdom from the "Unofficial Guide to WDW". While this information is several years old (so Disney might be better for younger ones now than it was then).

But anyway, the suggestion at least used to be that WDW was best if your children were closer to ages 5-6 for a trip to WDW. I'm sure a part of it has to do with kids at that age can go longer without pooping out and/or deal better with the waits in line that you used to always deal with before FastPass came along.

I think that has a lot to do with situations where parents wouldn't normally want to go to WDW and are only doing for the kids sake. 5 is great because they can do more, but are still young enough to really be into the magic.

However it really is for kids of ALL ages. You will find a lot of families around here that have taken their kids starting from 6 weeks (a little young if you ask me, but we live in MI so that would be a long trip) to 3 years old and have wonderful magical trips and wouldn't change a thing about them.

My DD went at 9months, 23 months, 2 more times before she was 3 years old, now this next trips will be her 8th trip and she loves the place. For her baby sister it will be her 3rd trip (17 months old.)

Each trip was special and different. Each trips she as gotten something new out of it and explored it at a new level. There is always some new magic to explore, something new added to the parks and resorts. In no way has going in the past made the next trip less magcial only more.

You can do whatever feels best for you and your family. However because the child is too young has never really been a consideration for me (and many others here.) Infact sometimes before potty trained is easier then when they are, because you don't end up in line and find out they really do need to use the bathroom right now. Stroller can be easier then not because you have palce to rest your things in addtion to the child. WDW is laid out and set up very well for families.

For familes who only want to go once, 5 is a good age. However if you go and do things right, chances are you will want to go back again. Fast pass does help a lot, along with extra magic hours, stayin on property (being able to get to your room rather easily if needed and can take mid day breaks there if you want to.) We never stand in line longer then 20 min.

I've just about decided to go!

From what I've read, we can expect good weather, and I think it would be a lot of fun to see the 3yo in Disney.

Some worries have included:
1. High risk pregnancy (hormone/blood issues-on medication, but no travel restrictions I know of).
2. Previous miscarriages with a miscarriage scare at the start of this one (cramping w/spotting).
3. Constant nausea that hasn't subsided (9 weeks, hopes to be gone in a few more).

However, since packages require 45 day notice for cancellation, I might just book only a room (can be cancelled only 5 days out) and possibly convert to a package, or just buy tickets separately.

do it do it do it!!! I have been to WDW at various times during pregnancy!! We were supposed to be on the 12/9/04 sailing but I was "too" pregnant last year as a result of our MAY trip so we had to reschedule to this year.

I was pregnant 4 times to WDW last year and had a blast!! We are not the commando type so going easy and relaxing was not a problem!! It was a lot of fun!

Those are all good things to keep in mind. You are right, plan it and 45 days before you will have a better idea of how things are going. Just booking a room might be the way to go also.

So sorry about the moring sickness (all though often a good sign of a healthy prengancy .) I was really sick with both of my girls. However when I was at WDW I felt the best ever of any time during the pregnancy. My 2nd pregancy my doc gave me a med called Zofran. It really helped, however I didn't need it at all the whole time I was there.

If planed out right (as it sounds you are doing,) good time of year, good pregnancy, good attitude going pregnant and with a young child can be a great trip.

Oh my you aren't kidding. My insurance coved it and Doc had samples at 1st because in his words they were a bit pricey! Hello, $30 a pill! I actually have some I filled and never used. I feel kind of guilty about that because they are so expensive.

If the package is a better deal do that, unless you want the flexibilty to cancel . Jan and Feb should be great times to go. Hopefully not too busy and not too hot. Might get a bit chilly if a cold front comes in, but you should be fine if you dress for it. In fact when I was 32 weeks pregnant we went in Feb (baby was born March 29th) and it was chilly. I had no problems with swelling or anything so that might of helped.

water park tickets free might be nice, but I would not pay for them right now, not in the winter. If you hav them go ahead and go, my DD loved BB when she was 3 years old. There is some kiddy areas that are great. However the weather if iffy and there is a lot to do with out them. The more is Disney quest, not the best place for a 3 year old, and PI, not the best place for pregnant ladies and families and not good at all for kids. (however a night out to see Adventures club and comday club wouldn't be bad, but a baby sitter is around $100 a night so that woudln't be good.

Being able to park hop would be nice too, but you can get around it. Try not to go to the park that has early entery if you aren't going to use it, they get extra busy on those days.

Hi All, Just had to post about Zofran , its the best little pill ever invented, I had it on my last pregnancy, I had morning sickness pretty severe and they almost put me into the Hospital several times, Zofran was the only thing that worked, I was sick with both my pregnancies until my 6 month......Zofran how I love that little pill....But yes pricey but if you have a very sick Wife who is hormonal and miserable its so worth it, no need to stress....Good Luck and I agree with the booking the trip, we were in a smiliar situation and did it that way cause they will refund your money if you cancel 5 days prior to arraival, I dont know about the packages and what the refund policy is....... Good Luck and I hope your DW is feeling better!!!

Tink, Hi, our situations seem very simlar and out kid around the same age. 1st pregnancy I was mersirble. As my DH said, "how can a 5 foot tall women get throw up on the celing?"

I don't think I could of made it through the 2nd pregnancy with out it. DH can't belive I would ever consider a 3rd, but with Zofran I just might (or might not, wait and see.)

Not planning on water park tickets, but I do find it interesting what's being offered in the package deals for Jan arrivals.

I can purchase a discount package direct from Disney for:
All-Star Resort + tickets + Hopper option + Water Park

for less than I can get (with AAA discount):
All-Star Resort (20% discount?) + tickets + Hopper.

And given that it's been 7 years since I researched WDW (we've stuck to DCL for our Disney fix) any advice is welcome reading.

I didn't read all the replies, but I went to WDW in a January 4-plus months pregnant with dh and dd2.5 and we had a truly wonderful time. The parks were not crowded at all and I would say we had decent weather given how unpredictable January can be, it was actually nice that it wasn't so hot because I didn't get as worn out. She and I would both get ready for an afternoon rest at the same time, and dh hung out at the hotel lounge watching games, etc. It was our first trip as a family and we were really able to focus on the little kid activities, plus we all have nice memories of a special time just spent with her--and we always tell ds his first trip to Disney was before he was even born! It was pretty easy to budget since we didn't want to do big deal sit down meals anyway, just picked a character meal or two and otherwise did mostly counter service and stayed at a moderate resort, so it wasn't nearly as expensive as our subsequent trips. Again, sorry if I have duplicated the other posts I didn't have time to read, but since your situation was so similar to mine, I thought I had to reply and say that we had a wonderful time.

I was there at about 4 months pregnant and it was totally fine for me. Depends on how you're feeling though... I had pretty easy pregnancies so it wasn't a problem. I did notice that smoke affected me more (if I was around smokers) so I couldn't go into ESPN club without getting a headache, but it was ok because DH and DC (cousin) would head out there in the evenings while I just relaxed in the room watching the winter Olympics (it was February) so that was great for me as I wasn't up to go-go-go like I usually would be. So then I was refreshed for the next day's activities.

I've been at DL at 10 months pregnant as well (on my due dates!) secretly hoping I'd deliver there (ha ha), and travelled to Hawaii at 8 months pregnant so it really all depends on how you are feeling. If you're feeling good, I say go for it. There's tons to do outside of the attractions that you'd be restricted from riding!

Oh, and 3 yo is a great age (we just got back from 2 weeks over there with DD 3yo and DS 5 mo) because if they like Disney, they'll be able to really enjoy and remember things. We took DD when she was 1 and although she had fun at the time, she doesn't remember any of it. Now she got really into things and had a great time. That said, it IS a very different trip than with just adults as you have to account for moving slower (potty breaks as well as observing various things found on the ground and what not) but that might even be better for DW as perhaps she's not moving as fast as usual either... so you just go in knowing your limitations, and enjoy what you can. This was our first trip with both kids and we just did what we could and didn't worry about what we weren't able to do. There's always next time...

I have to vote for GO as well. We did Disney when DW was pregnant and didn't have any problems. We just made sure that we went at a little slower pace since it was hard for her to waddle too fast. We were able to see more of the little things that we hadn't noticed before because we were running around.

Well it so far looks like things are going to work out.

I've booked a 7 day/7night package @ Pop Century with Hopper and Waterparks for about $1110. We have some friends that also have a 3yo that were planning a WDW trip in mid Feb, so I booked the us for the same week as they are going.

This is going to be a suprize Christmas gift, and I'm wondering how long it will take DW to figure it out. I've gotten a bunch of Disney "stuff" (movie, t-shirt, socks, slippers, various stocking suffers) that's all wrapped in Disney wrapping paper. Then as the (hopeful) primary way of announcing the trip, I've gotten a copy of the 2006 "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World" book. I'll follow that up with an envelope with copies of the reservations for both us and the friends.

Actually 3-4 months pregnant shouldnt be bad at all. I went this year at 3 1/2 months pregnant and had a fantastic time. We also went for just a few days at a value resort due to monetary reasons. I was so glad we went! Most women are through the morning sickness phase by three months (I still had it a little bit, but nothing overwhelming anymore), and it's early enough so that the weight of the baby isn't too bad walking around.

I'm 5 months pregnant now and would still be ok for a Disney trip, but by February/March, I think it would be too late.

I'd say GO! We are heading to WDW in January, as well and I will be 4 1/2 months pregnant - second time I've been while pregnant. We will be surprising our little boy for his 3rd birthday. We have experienced many of the same issues you and your DW are going through. We also had a few miscarriages previous to this pregnancy and I am considered high risk yet Dr says I am fine to travel. It's scary and deciding whether or not to travel can be a difficult decision. However, talk with your doctor. They won't steer you wrong - they are looking out for your DW and child's best interest. If they say you are fine, go and enjoy your last bit of time alone with your little one.

Couple things I feel about going while pregnant and having a 3yo.

While going and being pregnant isn't the same as when you have all your strength and can go on any ride, it has its many advantages as well. For me, it helps slow me down, allowing me to enjoy the sights rather than rushing from one ride to another. Also, I can enjoy more one on one time with my DS. When my DH wants to ride something DS can't, he and I go enjoy a snack or a ride he is excited for while DH enjoys his time.

Also, going with a youngster is so much fun. Our DS was 2 1/2 the last time we went and he LOVED it. Disney has done a great job at appealing to the younger crowds, as well as the older. We weren't sure if DS would remember much of our last trip but he talks about it to this day. Plus, as I have heard others say, enjoy one last trip with your little one while its just the three of you!

We place a train under the Christmas tree each year. DS was less than 30 month old last Christmas. The tree is located in the room where DS plays with his GeoTrax trains. We were going to just let DS continue to play with GeoTrax under the tree. But we were both taken-a-back when DS asked "Where's the Christmas Train?"
