Hi everyone. I'm firly new to the photography world. I got my first DSLR a little over a year ago and I've been learning a lot. We're planning a trip to WDW in January and I'm looking forward to the amazing photography opportunities.

The last time we went I just had a P&S camera and we used Photopass (now Memory Maker) and loved that we got a lot of great pictures with me in them. We also had the photographers use my camera. I plan on doing the same thing this time. I'm just wondering what to do with the camera settings when I hand it over to the photographer? Will they adjust the settings or should I have the camera already set up? It was easy with the P&S because it was always on Auto.

They will not adjust the settings. If you're lucky, they might zoom in or out. Just have it ready and tell them which button to push. And you might have to tell them to look through the viewfinder. ;)

I would recommend setting the camera to P mode or [] green box where the camera does all the settings. While you are waiting snap a photo and see if you are happy with the images then you can adjust. In most cases the most they will do is press the button may be take different orientations (Portrait and Landscape)

I still ask them to do it when we have memory maker since I have had some photos get lost.

Thanks. That's what I suspected. I don't know if they're "real" photographers, but even if they are, they won't necessarily know how to use my particular camera model.

Don't except the photopass photographer to take the photo at m&g! I have had more instances when the character handler would take the shot rather than the photographer as it is much quicker - they basically take pictures at the same time. The handlers are not trained in photography so they won't do any adjustments at all.

I also found that photographers out on the street may do adjustment on the camera IF they know the camera and IF they had no line. I also had that happen when we walked up to a lonely photographer. But don't expect that to be the norm! Just put the camera on auto if you don't know your camera too well.

Some of the PP peeps know what they're doing. A bunch do not. I always have my settings ready for them. They do not have time to play with an unfamiliar camera body. I had many, however, complement me on my camera. They at least knew greatness when they saw it. Lol

Normally I go with Aperture Priority, hand it off to them and hope for the best.

I had compliments thrown my way walking thru AK last year when I had my 500mm attached to my camera by the PP people.
