WDW Photo & Video Taping Tips

I am heading to WDW in August. My fiance and I are taking both our digital camera and video camera. My question is, are there any locations or places you can't or shouldn't use them. Any advice would really help, its been a while since I have been there. Like 24 years.

They will announce "No flash photography" in any attraction where it isn't allowed. (Generally, any of the dark rides or shows.)

So then I would still be able to photograph just without the flash? I am assuming?

No. You won't be able to take photographs even without the flash. A few years back my DH was on Pirates of the Caribbean and a person in front of him used her camera. They stopped the ride and came out and confiscated her camera. ( I am assuming that they gave it back to her at the end of the ride. Don't know for sure.) I wouldn't take the chance of taking any pictures though. I think it would be quite embarrassing to have the ride stopped because of my inability to follow directions.

Really, confiscated her camera? This seems kinda harsh. Has anyone else actually witnessed someone's camera being confiscated?

No, and I took picture on several rides. That seem a little hard to believe.

I find it hard to believe that they would do this. I witnessed someone video-taping ITTBAB in AK and was told literally 10 times to stop and didn't. The castmember still did not take the camera away or ask them to leave. You really just have to use common sense. If the ride is dark, you can take photos just don't use the flash. If you do use the flash not only will the ride operators tell you to stop - everyone around you will too. And, don't use video cameras in the 3D attractions. Other than that - you should be ok. Have a great time.

Thanks I will make sure to follow that when we are down there. However, I am getting a new digital camera and DO NOT NEED for them to take my camera, that would not make my trip happy. Thanks again. I will have to post the picks when I get back

I'm worried about having the camera with me all day and not being able to ride something because I can't take my camera. I will not leave it behind either...its a $900 camera....

I have a backpack camera bag so my camera goes with me everywhere. Now I will take pictures in the store and outside the ride at Pirates but I would never think to take pictures during the ride. The flash is disturbing and takes away from the ride. Some people are so dense and self absorbed that it might take something shocking for them to realize how inconsiderate they are. I have taken many pictures in different ques such as Kali River Rapids, Test Track, Star Tours but I try not to take pictures on the rides themselves.

They are several picture spots marked on your park maps and I always take a picture at these spots.

This happened a few years back. I don't know, maybe Disney was a little more strict then. It could have been that they announced several times not to take photographs and she didn't stop. I don't know. DH is not here for me to ask. All I know is what DH and his family have told me about it.

Even when they say just no FLASH photography, just be careful. Because then the pictures will be very dark.
Also, with the video cam, you might want to put that in a backpack, because you might not want to haul that around all day.

I have been on indoor dark rides before and had people use their flash and the ride wasn't stopped. It is pretty rude to use your flash when you are asked not too. I took pictures inside IASW without flash. All they ask is that you do not use the flash and bother the others on the ride.

Thats what I figured, but hey, here in NJ Six Flags is kind of a pain-in-the-a$$ to doing things like that.

"Stopped the ride and took the camera" LOL Sorry but that's just hysterical. How do you stop pirates and take a camera? Isn't it pretty much just floating in the current along, other than the intro and exit ramps? I saw plenty of...errr...idiots taking pictures on the dark rides. I took some in Pirates with no flash (they don't come out very well at all) but I would never dream of ruining peoples ride with the flash.

Actually tried using the flash of a disposable on RNRC...lol, nobody noticed and the picture looked like garbage anyway.

Just last year I videoed Pirates and shot over 50 photos with a DSLR. CMs all over saw me do it, it was very obvious. Did this for EVERY ride. The ONLY time I was told not to was when I tried to video the rock n' roll rollercoaster (which is sooooooo dark its useless anyway). Never had an issue on ANY other attraction.


If someone is stopped and they were'nt using a flash, then 100-1 odds they had an IR assist on their camera which emmits a Infrared beam which interfered with Disney Security Cameras.

He said "Yes. He was actaully on one once where they stopped the ride to stop a person from videotapping."

So that's a story 1-friend removed.

A lot of the newer video camera's will fit into the WDW camera waistbag Since mine ways about a pound - that is where it is stored when I'm not using it.

Sorry but I find it hard to believe they would stop a ride in the middle of it just to take your camera. I may be wrong but I would have to see it to believe it, just stubborn like that. Especially POC! How would they get to the offending person?? Sorry I just don't know..........
