Hi everyone, sorry i'm not sure i've posted this is the right area. We are looking at booking our WDW honeymoon ourselves (bad experiences with the travel agents in our town, apparently they will not allow us to book now and add any promos that Disney may release for fall... hopefully free dining). I have talked to some Disney cast members using the online chat feature on the website and was told that I can book my own flight (the Disney site does not offer a flight from our home town) using expedia etc and book the rest (tickets and hotel, memory maker etc) through the Disney website and have it all come together as a package so we would be eligible for any promos yet to come. Does anyone have any experience doing this, any info would be great! thanks in advance!!

Are you asking how it works if you don't book your flight through Disney?

This is how I have booked. It's very easy. Book the package, without flights, through Disney. Then once you book your flight, call Disney and give them the flight numbers and dates. They will attach it and book Magical Express if you want.

If a discount does come out, just call Disney to have it applied. Done and easy.

This, exactly! I booked resort, tickets and dining in August through Disney. I bought my flights via Southwest a few weeks later. Once I had the flight numbers, I called into Disney and told them I needed to add Magical Express. They entered my flight information and I had my tags a few days later. It was super easy! Then, in January when promos were released for my dates I just called back in and asked to have the new promo applied to my dates.

I do this frequently as I don't like to book my airfare with my package.

This trip I booked, reserved and paid for and then called back and adjusted the pricing by applying the Armed Forces Salute-which wasn't covering the dates I wanted when I booked the trip but was later extended.

Once we have our flights booked it's a simple phone call to update your reservation with the flight details so you can use Magic Express.

Where do you want to stay? If a deluxe, free dining may not be your best deal.

We were looking at staying at POP Century, so by what I understand we would be eligible for the quick service plan. Or could possibly pay the difference and go with a table service plan?

Yep, that's correct

I used a TA the first time I went to Disney. After that I made all my arrangements. I have the rack rate chart from Mousesavers, ticket info is easy to get, great per/day dining plan info right here on Disboards. I make my own ADRs. You can do it online, or you can call. I book airfare online. You can do Memory Maker online. For the Disney room and dining I call. Especially for ADRs. They might find something or offer alternatives rather quickly, whereas online nothing may show as available or it may be time-consuming to look for alternatives online. Also by calling, if you've made all your plans on paper, the CM will help confirm that you did your plans correctly as far as prices, room categories, etc.

Book a package now with dining and tickets. If a promo comes out, you can change to that very easily. You can also change your dates. If you book room-only right now, and change to a package later you have to start a new reservation, and room availability may have tightened up during the months that went by. Package payment is due 45 days before check-in, so you have plenty of time to hold your reservation while you wait for promos to appear. Only thing is your wedding date and honeymoon are firm dates, right? So it's iffy whether discounts would appear on the exact week you need them. However, with free dining all you need is for your stay to begin during the FD promo period and you will get FD for your complete stay.

My DD got married at Disneyworld. They bought those bride and groom Mouse Ears and wore them in the parks during their Disneymoon. They got all sorts of congratulations and a few ride pixie dust moments. The best to you!
