i know they are having renovations done this month but how cool would it be if they unveil the holiday edition of the ride of us WDW guests? I've heard great things about the DL attraction and would love to one day find it within WDW gates

People disagree with the idea because of the time it takes to put up and then take down the overlay.

People talk about how Disneyland is for "locals" and WDW is for "one-time-trip people", and the "locals" can handle that downtime but WDW people wouldn't.

I think that's one of the silliest things I've ever heard, but then when I go to Disneyland I have never once met a "local" randomly in a line. I chat with people in lines and they are from all over the place. Whereas at WDW many of the people I meet are from FL, and one of the reasons we started going is because of family that lives out there and is local and they go all the time (until they finally discovered Universal).

I think people could handle it just fine. I also think Disney could tighten up the time it takes them to put up the overlay. Not sure why it takes weeks.

But...I doubt it will ever ever happen.

i agree about the local myth. i mean I've never been to DL and at the most on my radar its a one time trip while the world I'm heading into my 11th? not sure how many times I've been

They change the Haunted Mansion in Tokyo for the seasons. Nightmare before Christmas, so it stays up for a few months. Absolutely beautiful. :)

Not gonna happen. WDW won't take it down 4 weeks a year to change the overlay. I get that the above poster thinks that is a silly reason - but it's why they don't do it.

I absolutely buy the local park vs once in a lifetime park for DL vs. WDW. Having been to both, it always amazes me at how many locals are at DL and how many first timers are at WDW.

I also think that WDW has so many more holiday things for people to see/do that they don't really need the overlay. DL has nowhere near the amount of holiday offerings.

I would prefer they not keep trying to make WDW and DL mirror images with the rides. Let DL be unique in the US with that overlay.

We were just at Disneyland and I definitely buy the locals-park argument. Everywhere, and I mean everywhere, we bought something asked if we were AP holders so we could get the discount.

We liked the overlay, but I don't think it is worth shutting HM down for that long. We actually enjoyed the Christmas overlay for Small World more. It was really sweet.

Yeah, I'm gonna vote no on this too. I like Nightmare Before Christmas and HMH, but really I just prefer the regular HM. The downtime is not worth it either. They can keep it at DL for sure as it is very popular there, but not at WDW please.

Nooooo!!! Absolutely not. If you want to see the overlay, you can make the trip to California. This way we all have a choice. :)

See, I agree, it does need it. And the Small World Holiday, too. And they added the Jingle Cruise - I think last year was the first year? Given how much of a big deal they make of Christmas at WDW, it is a surprise that they don't add a holiday overlay to the rides, too. It really enhances the Christmas feel of the parks. It also really boosts attendance on those rides, too. The HM at DL is usually a 20 min wait or less. Often we just walked on. But when it's the HM Holiday, the waits are crazy. Same with Small World. It's usually a walk on except for during the holiday overlay.

Yeah, NO! Leave it alone.

1 I do believe that DL is much more a "home park" than is WDW. So is Tokyo Disney. The majority of WDW visitors are first timers or "once every year or two" visitors. They aren't going to be happy with the ride being down for 2 months every fall and another month or so during the winter just to put up or take down the overlay.

2 Thanks to FP+, the standby lines at HM have already grown substantially. Who wants even longer lines?

3 I'm generally not in favour of turning all of the parks into clones. If you want to see the overlay, plan a trip to DL.

Not all the rides are down for 2 months for the overlay. I think for the Jingle Cruise they basically changed the lines and the costumes. And the Small World doesn't take as long as the Haunted Mansion. They do some pretty amazing special effects with the HM one, and that takes time.

WDW could put their own stamp on the holiday rides. Maybe make the Great Movie ride a ride through some of the famous Christmas movies? Do some holiday stuff at Innoventions. Stuff like that.

My DH and I were just talking about it this weekend....I really like the song Belle sings in the Enchanted Christmas movie and I think it would be so easy to tack it onto the end of the Beauty and the Beast Show to jazz that one up a bit during the holidays and would require no down time. Instead of taking rides out of commission for a few weeks, I wish they would do this!

Although I do miss the holiday Country Bears overlay. That was one of my favorites :thumbsup2

That would take months to set up and months to tear down. Unless they can somehow fit Classic Xmas stories into the current scenes.

Maybe have Ralphie taking on Aliens with his trusty Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time. :goodvibes
