WDW Monorail around the Christmas Tree

One of our favorite holiday traditions is the WDW Monorail around the Christmas Tree. It was a gift from my special elderly aunt. We have had it for many years. She had added the Epcot ball and we purchase the Contemporary to add to it.

The very first one we had was the Red Line and it never worked. So on one of our trips back to WDW we took it and exchanged it for a new one. We now have the Purple Line.

We just got it down with our other Christmas decor and sadly it is not running. The lights come on and the "announcements" of stepping away from the door, etc are all working. What is not working is the monorail itself....it does not go around the track. DH put in fresh batteries and make sure all the battery connections were clean.

So the kids are pretty disappointed that the monorail is not working.

I know that I'll be able to contact WDW and exchange it, but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and has any ideas on how to actually fix it.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

so sorry, we have the red monorail and ours has not given us any problems. We have the Contempory and the Poly. Sadly, the Poly lives in the attic as it is a PAIN to put together. My kids love it but wish it also did the greating in Spanish.

LOL! I was just telling DH that if we get a new one it will prob have the greeting in Spanish too. (that'll prob drive me crazy, as the greeting is neverending on the monrail we have).

I have not seen the Poly as part of it. I'll have to check into that.

I am sure you have checked this, but the button on the top of our monorail (blue from 2006) just starts the door recording. The button on the side moves the monorail.

We bought an orange monorail in March (2009) and there are two buttons on it. One to hear the announcements and the other is to make it go forward and back.

We have a whole room for the monorail, the GF, the CR and the Castle!. DH tried to get the Polynesian but it's discontinued and the one on Ebay was $600! It's the highlight of our CHristmas decorations. No one can believe we actually have it.

Yes, I know about it having 2 buttons. The top button works great becasue it says the greeting perfectly.

The small button on the side of the lead car controls the forward & backward of the monorail.....that is what is not working. The monorail does not move at all. It will move manually, which usually it would only move if on because of the gears(what ever called) under the lead car are what makes the car move.

I am going to be calling WDW after the holidays and returning this one for a new one. I wonder what the new color is. I think on Amazon I saw a yellowish/orange one. It has a roof that opens and teeny, tiny Disney characters that can go in & out of it. I wonder if that would be the replacement one I would get. I am hoping to stay more "old school".

My DS (7) got the blue one on his birthday trip in 1/08. He puts it around the tree that he sets up in his room. I love it!

Bumping this one up - didn't see that thread earlier...

I have the black & red monorails running around my tree on a simple oval line, the only addition is currently the Contemporary Resort, since I don't have that much space here in my room.

It's the first time I'm doing this and I love playing with it. I'm probably the only one here in Switzerland to have the Disney monorail around the tree. It's pretty cool. Will take everything down tomorrow - until next December.

Additionally, I got these cool resort signs off Ebay a couple month ago, but I didn't set them up in my monorail display this year due to space.

OK, I'm off to go playing with it for one last time this season. I'd love to see pics from other Monorail displays.

Those are great pics! I would love to have that under my tree!

We have the castle with a bunch of rides (teacups, dumbo, peter pan, to name a few). I take it out about once a year for the kids to play with it. I should look into buying the monorail. Do they sell those at the parks only? Or can I get it at the disney store online?

The monorail and some accessories like the Contemporary, Spaceship Earth, or spare tracks are available online at the Disney Store, however I see the monorail itself is currently sold out. Check back from time to time. You may browse Ebay as well - I got my stuff from there.
