I noted that in my official packet--the offical word is no headphones. is this strictly enforced? I realize inside the parks there will be cool disney tunes, I am just thinking I might want a little boost during those long stretches in between on those back acess roads. I ran a much smaller marathon last year which the offical word was NO to headphopnes but no one seemed to care on actual race day.

I've been wondering this myself. The no head phone rule has been posted in at least the last 2 marathon packets, but last year it was not enforced. I know this because I wore my iPod for miles 18-23 in the full. This past spring the USA Track and Field banned the use off all head phones at any event that was an "official" USATF event, saying that if a runner was caught with an iPod or mp3 player, it would be confiscated until after the race or the runner will be removed from the course. :scared1: BUT I have run 2 1/2 marathons since that new rule was introduced--both 1/2's were official events and lots of people were wearing head phones. I'm not sure if USA Track & Field has issued a statement allowing head phones from the backlash or if the race officials are just not policing it. I want to use my iPod at Disney, but I certainly don't want any drama!! :)

This is just my two cents, but based on the number of people who currently use mp3 players during races, I'm guessing if they did strictly enforce this at Disney, two things would take place.

1. The would make 726 announcements and signs stating that they planned to do this and strictly enforce this, and you would hear more about it at the expo, etc, so there is no was no confusion about it and runners would be prepared.

2. The shear quantity of runners wearing mp3 players would cause this "enforcement" to create a huge traffic jam & commotion somewhere along the course (where ever it was that they decided to enforce this), so you would see and hear this commotion well before you came upon the scene. This would also be true if they tried to enforce it at the entrance to the corrals.

My thought is that there is no way they'll try to enforce this. I haven't seen it at any races since the rule went into effect, and I would imagine Disney won't be the first place that they will try it out.

I kind of figured that might be the case.. my ipod is one of those mini-clip type shuffles. I can easily stash it if there is an issue and I really only intend to use it after exiting the magic kingdom and into the long stretch to the AK. now to check out the post re: music so I can get a good mix!! LOL!
