WDW Kennels

We're bringing a dog to WDW for the first time later this month. Our two adult dogs are staying home, but the puppy is going to Disney World! I'm going to request a pet loop (anyone know which premium loops are pet loops?), and my plan is to kennel him while we're at the parks. I thought we would use the kennels at the individual parks rather than the FW kennel. Can anyone tell me about the kennels at Disney? Are they nice? Anything I should know? It sounds like the kennels at MK and Epcot will walk the dog twice a day and you need to come out of the park to walk the dog at AK and HS. Correct? Also, where exactly are the kennels located? I know the MK one is at the TTC, but where? Any info/advice on either the kennels or the long drive down in the motorhome would be appreciated. If it's relevant, at the time we come the puppy will be almost 5 months old and probably between 7 and 8 lbs.

Not really certain why you want to transport your dog to the different kennels. Under Best Friends management of the kennels, your dog will be walked during the day at the FW kennel, and it would be more convenient. While I personally was happier with the kennel staff under Disney's management, we did use the kennel under Best Friends last October and they were okay. I personally feel the kennel was cleaner when Disney ran it and I liked the Disney staff better (for some reason the Best Friends staff just couldn't understand that I had paid for his entire stay in advance and kept trying to charge me everyday). The price also went up when Best Friends took over. That being said, I would kennel my dog with them again, I was just not impressed with the operation under Best Friends.

We have kept both of our pups at the BF kennel at the Fort for a day trip to the parks, and they have stayed in other locations as well. I was very pleased with how they handled everything quickly and efficiently. Since we had stopped by w/o planning, I didnt have a copy of the dog's records- and it was Presidents Day- so I figured that they wouldnt be abl eto get the shot recored etc... but the did without problems. My babies were so happy and clean when we picked them up- I knew they had been well taken care of.

We actually have them booked for the week we will be there, but have made arrangements to pick up the pups when we are at the Fort and can play with them :-)

JMO- but I would use their kennel over the ones where you have to stop, go out and feed and walk your dog every 2 hours etc- I'm sure prices might have been raised when BF took over, but they are also taking on more responsibility as well...

anyone know which premium loops are pet loops?

Here you go!

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Loop 500 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 700 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 800 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 900 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 1200 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 1300 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)

Some of these are already done their conversion, but some are getting done now. I got this All Ears on their FW FAQ page; it has the schedule for the site upgrades too.

The TTC kennel is to your right (as you face the gates) in a small, white building. It's also the location for the main Lost & Found, and has a Pluto doghouse with a topiary outside.

The Studios kennel is on your left as you approach the gate. It's actually across the road from where the tram drops you off. They don't always let you park up front for the kennel here (you will if you have AAA); they may tell you to take your pup on the tram -- which my dogs love and so do fellow tram guests! But, since some people are allergic or frightened of even tiny dogs, we always sit in the last row, after asking the CM if it's okay with her/him.

The Epcot kennel is far to the left of the main entrance and a has a good sized sign outside to help you find it. Tell them when you're pulling into Epcot that you're going to the kennel; you'll get a parking spot much closer to it that way.

The AK kennel is inside the security gate, before the ticket gates, on the right hand side. AK also has kennel parking so you're a little closer to the walk in. So the pup will go through security with you; it's also a great opportunity to have the PhotoPass people take a "family" photo with your pup! And if you come in or leave at a less traffic time, you can get great shots with the characters.

(Quick reminder on pet photos: if you're in Disney World during December, remember that Santa now has photo sessions with pets at his chalet in Downtown Disney.)

Hope this helps!

Yeah...I would just kennel the puppy at the fort. Are you bringing a car? If not, how will you get the puppy to each kennel. Disney transportation does not allow pets. Plus...if you board him at each kennel you will have to deal w/ parking. I think it is easier to take Disney transportation anyway. I like the kennel at the fort better anyway! Regardless....have fun!

Actually, on-the-ground intel suggests that 400, 500, and 800 are currently Premium Pet loops, 700 and 900 are not yet converted, and 1200 and 1300 are converted but don't show signs of pet-friendliness (no poop-bag dispensers). That said, pets have been sighted staying in every loop, so hard-and-fast rules on the subject are hard to come by, regardless of AllEar's dogmatism (get it, dog-matism! :lmao: )

Thanks for the plug!

Thanks for all the great information! For those who asked why not the kennel at the Fort, I was concerned because the Fort kennel closes at 9, so if we're at a park past that (for the evening entertainment), we wouldn't get back before the kennel closed. Is there any way to get your dog out after they close? The kennels at the parks stay open for an hour after park closing, so I wouldn't have that worry there. Although it does make total sense to use the Fort kennel instead of the one at AK, since we'd be back long before closing time and AK is one where you have to come out and walk the dog twice a day. We always drive to the parks, so getting the puppy to the park kennels isn't an issue.

If we are going to AK we like to take the dogs to that kennel. First, you get to park real close to the entrance (in by the handicap parking) second, you take the dogs right up to the entrance so if you get lucky you can get their picture taken with a character or by photopass.

Yes, there is a phone outside the door which you can call security and get the pup removed 24/7, don't forget proof of ownership.

Is the cost the same whether the dog is a 'day guest' or spends the night?

I know, I know . . . I could look it up - but y'all are just so willing to answer questions.

My dog tends to go alittle crazy when left alone in the camper. I'd hate to bother our neighbors. Unless a good dose of Benadryl would know him out!
