WDW IS affordable!

I think it all depends on what you are using as a comparison. We're a family of 5 (although our youngest won't be 3 until May). Many vacation destinations won't allow us to stay in one room. Either we need to upgrade to suites or get 2 rooms. I've priced other vacation destinations and found them to be FAR more expensive than Disney. That doesn't make Disney affordable for everyone but it is more affordable than some other popular vacation spots (Atlantis, Beaches, etc.). And airfare to these other destinations is often 2-3 times what it would cost us to fly to Disney.

It was our third child that had us start looking into camping instead of hotels. The cost for two rooms plus the airfare was starting to get beyond our reach. However, our travel trailer is larger than many hotel rooms, is packed and ready to go anytime we want, and we can stay in a state park campground for anywhere between $14 and $30 per night.

Stayed in Yellowstone National Park for $17 per night in 2006, and got a week in Fort Wilderness for $46 per night with our trailer in 2008. The cost for gas to tow the trailer to WDW is close to or a little cheaper than air fare and we get to see a lot of the country on the way down and back.

You'd spend $1000 of that in hotel alone at the Hampton Inn in Mandeville, LA in 5 days over Mardi Gras weekend. :scared1: So, in comparison....it's not that bad. :rotfl:

Really? I don't get why people spend so much to come here, but I'm appreciative of their support to our economy. Maybe I should rent out my extra room for that weekend and get some of those Mardi Gras dollars. :rotfl:

What about people who can't afford DVC or an AP? Plus neither of those would be of value to me even if I could because we wouldn't be able to afford flights to Orlando more than once a year to get our money's worth.

It is more affordable than say Hawaii or Europe, but I can go many other places for a lot cheaper. If we could drive there or go more than once a year and take advantage of things like an AP...then maybe I would agree.

Exactly my thought.

You do walk around and look at buildings. But there are many museums (all of the Smithsonian) that are free.

I'm sorry I don't really know what she is planning, it was just something she mentioned to me, I don't know the details. I'm only good at planning WDW trips.

For those of us who have to fly and can only get there once a year (hopefully) affordable, no. But, to us, excellent value. With airfares so high for us €3500 including car we won't go often and when we do we'll probably stay deluxe (just to add to the expense, lol) but it was, by far, the best value for money holiday we ever had. Would seriously consider DVC if we could just get there cheaper. Am thinking of AP as DW may have a conference in the Swan in November, so room will be paid, and then go again in 2012. Sweeeeeettt
