WDW in the Cold

I can't imagine going during the really hot months - though we did enjoy our 1st january trip where temps were in the low to mid 80's...although the couple days where it creeped higher were a little too hot for my taste!

The following year though, the temps were much colder - in the 30/40's (in particular, the memory of the night we went to phantasmic still makes my husband shudder) I also made this mistake on going on Kali during that trip...when we went to disneyland the following year and saw similar temps there was no way I was getting on the similar ride there.

While we did enjoy the water park the first trip, perfect weather is mid 70's...cool enough to not get hot and tired walking around, but warm enough to at least feel like I am not in NH anymore!

WDW is good at any time at any temperature. This past trip, I went through extremes of 83 degrees on Dec 13 to a shivering 38 degrees on Dec 17. Although I prefer hot weather, I still had a good time in the near-freezing temperatures of Dec 17. Believe it or not, I had to wear a parka and hood to keep warm Dec 17 especially when riding the elevated open-air Tomorrowland Transit Authority, which the kids love. Disney in the cold is better than working at the office on a warm day.

Ahh, we'd rather be up in International Falls, MN! OK, we really would rather be in Orlando in Dec. than Des Moines. Right now we are having highs in the 20's brrrrr. We were in Orlando the first week of Nov. and we were cold--low's around 50 next to water at night with wind is cold. I'd prefer temps in the high 70's to 80's but I will take the 50's or even 40's because it is better than the 20's to teen's to below zero temps we can get back home. The colder the park weather, the lower the crowds! Just pack the winter coats and layer the clothes.

I liked my December trip to WDW because the weather was perfect during the day and slightly chilly at night. I think it's more comfortable when it's cooler, but I live in Louisiana where we have two seasons, summer and winter, one of which lasts 10 months.

But I do think the cooler weather does hamper some of the things you'll do in Disney on warmer days. Things like Splash Mountain, Kali River Rapids, maybe an ice cream cone on Main Street. When we went in December, we road Kali and paid for it the rest of the day when the wind started to blow.

Well, we just planned a trip in Dec 2008 (week before Christmas):cool1: . So, once again, I'll have to pack a little of everything. And I bet I'll still have to make a run to Walmart for something!

We are going to Disney in January 2008 for the weather. We went in summer one year and were too hot. May has always been a nice time to go, but after that it seems to get too hot. We chose January for the lighter crowds and the cooler weather. Would we like it to be warmer than 50? Yes, but any weather beats Wisconsins temps in the 20's and 30's plus the 27" of snow we have gotten. Florida here we come! :)

We much prefer WDW when its not hot & humid. For us, its no fun standing in lines sweating - and I suspect its not fun to those around us. :lmao:

So, bring on the cooler weather.
