WDW in Nov or Aug?

Okay, I need some advice here. I hope it's okay posting this on the budget board but I couldn't find a more appropriate board.

I'm trying to plan a WDW trip for my DD and I this year. Our two possible vacation weeks are either the 4th week of August or Thanksgiving week. My original preference was for Thanksgiving week because there wouldn't be as great of a threat of hurricanes/rain, we get to see some of the Christmas decorations, the crowds aren't too bad, etc (we've gone that week in 2006, 2007 and 2008) I'm also a fearful flyer (I get very nervous with turbulence) so I'm thinking that planes during rainstorms would probably mean turbulence(?)....so that's another factor

However, roundtrip airfare for the Thanksgiving week (Sat - Sat) for just one person is $558!! In August, it would be about $198. For that price differential, I'm now seriously considering August.....but at the same time, I wonder how big the hurricane possibility would be.

For those of you who have traveled during that time, how likely are we to get hurricanes or heavy rains/thunderstorms? We can definitely live with the passing afternoon showers but would hate to lose several park days because of rain.

I'm also wondering if it's possible that the Thanksgiving fares will decrease in the next few months. In the past, I haven't booked airfare until August or Sept for our Thanksgiving trips and airfare then has been around $250 so I'm wondering if maybe this year's airfare might go down later in the year? Or are airfares for that week really that much more expensive now?

Thanks,
Helen

we've gone in August a few times and it does rain every day. The threat is there for hurricanes...a couple of times we had to alter our flights to arrive before the storm came through. In 2008 we were stuck there with TS Faye for 5 days. It rained like I've never seen before, but we just put on our ponchos and went to the parks anyway. Sometimes if the storm is bad they will close the parks early but that hasn't happened to us yet.

I've been in November and the weather was much nicer but it wsan't Thanksgiving week. I don't mind the weather in August so much so I'd choose that over Thanksgiving crowds

You'll get a lot more play for this on the theme park touring and strategy board.

My first thought is Thanksgiving week is good for crowds?!!?

We go in August nearly every year and haven't had to deal with a hurricane so far, but we've had them come through right after leaving and right before we got there. Turbulance has never been an issue.

The much more worrisome thing in August is the extreme heat.
