WDW in late August

What is WDW like the last week in August? Are the crowds any less? (Would it be a huge difference if we went in November?) And what is the weather like? Is it unbearably hot and humid?

Also - any suggestions for vacation insurance?

Thanks.

Generally, the last week of August is light as far as crowds go, but with the free dining, I don't know what this year will be like. I haven't been in November for a while, so I can't really compare that.

As far the weather, it is hot and humid, but I love that weather so that's why I pick that time of year. :thumbsup2 It's just really important to stay hydrated. Also, there is rain almost every afternoon.

Travel insurance is a personal preference, I think. I usually pass and just hope for the best!! I may have to second guess that this year with all the hurricanes that are predicted. :teeth:

We went the 3rd week in August in 2005. It was the first week of free dining and I was worried about the crowds. It was not busy at all. It was hot and humid, and we did worry about hurricanes. But it was a great time to go.

We are planning August '07.

When our children were little we always went during the last two weeks in August because the crowds were lower and the resort rates were lower. The weather is pretty hot and humid, but we never seemed to mind. We would leave the parks at noon, have lunch and relax at the pool then return to the parks in the evening.

Early December is now our favorite time because it's just my DW and I. :)

We have never purchased vacation insurance and, so far, have been lucky and not needed it. The package deals are the ones that need it since there are cancellation penalties. We always book everything separate so the rooms can be cancelled in as little as three days before. The airfare on SW, at least, is just credited back for the next trip AND it's only two of us. :)

Humid does not begin to describe the weather in August.

Try "dripping wet" the moment you step out of your air conditioned hotel at 6:00 AM.

Or Spectromagic in the FOG due to humidity levels at 9:30 PM.

Bring 2 pair of clothes per day so you can change into dry clothes after a mid-day pool break (or maybe a just lay down in the air conditioning back at the hotel room break).

If you have a choice and free dining is not an issue, I'd vote for November.

Have fun whenever you go! :sunny:
