Hiya

(A fellow sneaker-overer from the DLP boards, I see! I'll not tell if you don't). Just to say after being well won over from the Brits Guide to DLP... now our Bible, I've bought the Brits Guide to WDW and Orlando. Its brilliant!

I also plan on buying another unofficial one before we go (free dining in September 2009), mainly in case we decide to go wider afield.

Other than that I just plan on scouring these boards for loads of tips as it seems to be a MAHUSSIVE version of our beloved DLP.

P.S. Congrats on the comp win btw... entered myself and hoped a fellow DISer would win!

I think the unofficial guide to Walt Disney World has just about everything you could want to know and it's written in a very easy to read style. It could take you some years to read!!! (due to it's size) Buy it discounted from Amazon or play.com.

Fancy meeting you here, Emma.:rolleyes1 I'm lurking around here too, thinking about 2010 or 2011. It'll take me that long to save (and plan it).:rotfl:

we would recommend Brits Guide to orlando and also try The Unoficial guide to Disney both available from Amazon or most bookshops...

we also find these boards are fab and try a few of the other boards around.

Tootie Bear were also in AKL in september 2009 the first 2 weeks

I'm a guide book junkie and probably have around 50 on Orlando alone, so it follows that they range from the big players (Fodors, Frommers, et al) to the obscure. Of all those I've bought, these would be my top picks:

Brit Guide to Orlando This is unique in being the only one to approach everything from a Brit's perspective, which translates to considerable content not found in other guidebooks (such as detailed information on the the two Orlando airports, hiring and driving a car, shopping opportunities and their locations to name just a few).

The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World This is extremely detailed and you tell it's written by people who have a real passion for the place. Unlike some of the others, which are perfectly competent but do little other than scratch the surface, this one really gets down to the nitty grityy.

Passporter A totally unique take on the genre probably best described as a cross between a guidebook and an organiser. It focuses entirely on Walt Disney World and includes lots of information which you'd normally only find on internet sites such as this.

The Complete Walt Disney World Whilst the text has a more "high level" feel (that's to say, doesn't seem to be written with the true insider knowledge of the other three), it's beautifully illustrated with stunning photographs throughout. Another in a similar vein is the Eyewitness Guide to Walt Disney World (if you're familiar with Dorling Kindersley publications, you'll know what to expect).

:thumbsup2 That's really useful Debbie - think I might pop the first two on my Santa wish list.

We can highly recommend the first three books on UKDEB's list plus the WDW with Kids book is excellent for first timers with young children full of useful stuff relevant to parents of smaller kids. We use all our resources to plan our stays but it's great to have up to date info which usually gets posted here as soon as it's announced. Thank you moderators on all of the forums for all your hard work:grouphug:

Thanks everyone :) Looks like I know what I'll be asking for for Christmas :)

There are also official guides to the parks or 'Imagineers Guides'... these are really good if you're into your Disney trivia. They will tell you all kinds of neat things about the building and designing of the parks. A good one to occupy the kids if they are slightly older with a good reading level. Not really a tip book though so be aware of that ;)

I've got the Unnofficial Guide, the Brits Guide and the Kids Guide
I have found all to be an invaluable source of information, even though we have been to Orlando over 15 times there are still things that we don't know about the parks and the surrounding areas. I can't wait for the new Brits guide to be published too!

The last time i went in 2004 was a bit of a disaster (I went with a non Disney lover) so when i go with DD i want it to be perfect.

Hi Emma!!! I'm over here a lot too at the moment!! WDW is such a bg jump from our beloved DLRP!!

I think I might treat myself to the brits guide as I have a long journey at the weekend!!

Just to add to Deb's excellent post. The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World has recently been reprinted. The fact that it spend 3 pages over the detail of Tower of Terror is an indication of the detail of this book :)
I raved about this book when it was first released :goodvibes

Hey Torsie :goodvibes

Make sure you let me know what its like if you buy it.

I have the Brits guide and the unofficial guide, I wish that the UOG was not full of readers complaints about WDW:confused3 - most of them don't add anything or are helpful however it is a good book and the touring plans are useful. I like the glossy pictures in the Brits guide and the shopping section is very useful. I think the Brits guide is good if you plan to do more off site restaurants and shopping.

The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World is the BEST book I have at the moment :)
