Hi. I posted a similar question about good on the restaurant board and someone suggested I also post this here.

I'm looking for tips for a friend who has diabetes. Are there any foods that you love at WDW? I've heard about the cheesecake from Yachtsman, but I'm wondering if there are any other things you love, or even that you avoid.

Thanks in advance!

Don't know if your friend has Type 1 or Type2, which will likely make some difference in what he/she is on the look out for. We did not specifically avoid anything when we visited with our son who has T1D. We did do a LOT of testing, and there were times he really needed extra snacks for all of the heat and exertion his body was dealing with. On the whole, we did not find it a lot harder to manage (estimating carbs, etc) than and other time we are not in our own home with food labels.

Have fun!

Thanks for the information. It's type 2.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Go to Post #3 and scroll down to the Dietary Restrictions area.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

Mom and I both have type 2 diabetes. Use the same carb counting principles you do when eating out. Many table service restraunts have a sugar free option or will at least provide fresh fruit for a dessert.

Do the same as the type one person...test frequently especially if you are being more active than usual. Carry nabs in your bag and drink plenty of water.

Just an FYI - if your friend needs insulin, you can request a mini-fridge for meds - and since it IS for medication, it will be free of charge. (At least it was last time I was there!) :) I have MS, and have to take injections - the meds have to be refridgerated. I was told to just let the cast members know, and a refridgerator will be provided at no cost. :goodvibes
