WDW Flu Experiences

I woke up one morning at All Star Movies sick as a dog...last day at Disney too. I tried to go into the parks but never made it very far, went back and stayed in the room until around 5pm and I felt much better. I think it must have been a little stomach bug but getting ill at Disney isn't fun.

There was also the time at Riverside when I thought I was having a stroke. The Disney ambulance and police came and everything.

I work at a day care so when I am at work I tend to was my hands 50-60 times daily. When I am at the parks I tend to wash about half that but I'll use more hand sanitizer (just about after every ride.)

I'm embarrassed to admit that in Feb '08 my kids and I brought a nasty cold with us on the plane. I felt so bad and tried my hardest to keep the germs to myself. Karma got me and after we arrived the kids and I all came down with the flu while there (plane?). If you're going to be anywhere feeling like you've been hit by a bus, Disney's the place -- just watch their gift shop prices on Tylenol and cough drops. :rotfl:

I now bring the sanitizing wipes with us on the plane.

Hmmm? Never been ill just before beginning a long trip anywhere, only at the very end or just after returning. Have to admit I don't think I would cancel a trip because I had a cold. I'd just load up on cold/flu meds and dope myself up.

Oh no! So what was wrong with you!?

Well I was out walking the paths along the river and suddenly my face started to tingle and felt like it was going numb. I just started to feel like I was loosing my senses, hearing, vision, etc...

They checked me out and figured I had a drop in blood-sugar for some reason but everything was fine. Of course, I could've got into some pesticide on the plants (if they use it) or even bitten by a spider. Then again, could've been just a drop in blood sugar as mine tends to run low.

My last meal was two hours before, and I gorged myself at Ohana and ate tons of the tiger shrimp. I would say a reaction to the shrimp, but it took way too long. I ate the entire pinapple they used to give, and even ate all the caramel sauce out of the bowl, so I did spike my blood sugar for sure....and may have just crashed.

The more I think about it, it did seem like I had breathed something bad while walking along the trail, because it was like it burned to breathe for a while. Who knows....

Ended up with an interesting story to tell though, and have had no problems since. I get bloodwork every year and its always perfect.

There's always the chance of catching something at Disney. Some people get sick while they're there and others may get sick right before, but go anway (since its nonrefundable). Either way, you'll have folks who may be contagious so just wash your hands from time to time and try not to get right up in someone's face and, for the most part, you should be fine.
