WDW First Week of August

We are Canadian DVC owners with points to burn this year and replacement annual passes that we have yet to activate. We were supposed to go for two weeks in March, but I cancelled as I’m not quite ready for theme parks yet in the current Covid environment. We will likely do a big trip next March but hoping to sneak in a could of smaller trips before then to activate and make use of our APs. I was able to book a 1 bedroom Boardwalk view at BWV for the first week August this summer, which works well timing wise for us as the kiddos are out of school. I know if will be HOT with lots of thunderstorms, but is it still manageable (and fun)? Any other concerns re WDW that time of year that I should be aware of?

It's like being in Satan's left armpit. I would assume doing a bit of time early, then hide in AC/pool shade midday, then use evening hours.

Thunderstorms are great while they last, but make it more muggy after.

We used to go that week every year. The best way to manage it is if you rope drop, then leave the park by noon. Spend the hottest hours in the pool, back to the room for the late afternoon thunderstorms. Shower and then go eat dinner early evening. Head back out after dinner and enjoy a park for a few hours.

Hydrate all day long, and avoid being out in the heat between 12-4 and you should be fine.

We’ve decided to move our trip to the first week of Sept. I doubt the weather will be any better, but maybe the parks will be quieter.

That's been our week for years now and yes you'll be walking on the sun daily. I lucked out this past Aug by some chance we had clouds most of the week and only 2 glaring sun days. I carry around a cooler backpack to keep everyone well hydrated. We usually break up the days with 4-5 hours in the morning 1-2 break then return early evening. I find that the neck cooling towels keep me from overheating on the scorcher days. Overall manageable but please do take steps to keep enough water in everyone and take breaks if you can

Wear hats. Hydrate. Do not assume rope drop to last kiss is a good idea. Take breaks, use the pool. Remember that caffeine doesn't hydrate as well as a clear liquid. If you hate the taste of the florida water, get the powder packs of Gatorade or Propel to take to the park to dump in with your ice water.

We’ll be there 8/3- 8/9, a week later than usual. Hot, but not usually too bad in regards to crowds (though who knows what this year will be like). Switching to September will likely bring much lower crowds, but I avoid Florida/Caribbean at that time because of Hurricanes. Granted, August weather is stormy and can technically have a hurricane- but Early Sept is just too risky for me.

Everyone has given you excellent advice. Both August and September are hot with a good chance of afternoon rain showers. If possible try to do as much as you can early in the morning, take a break then make use of evening hours. An announcement was just made that Hollywood Studios has been added to extended evening hours. Take advantage of the extended evening hours, may still be hot but at least the sun is not beating on you.

As a native Floridian I won't go outside from July to late September unless I have to. Lol

It's so miserably hot and humid that I'm going to restate it again, even though it's for the tenth time. The hot isn't so bad (it is usually over 100° (38°C) here in So Cal in August), but the humidity is actually more like Satan's groin.

Everyone has hit the nail on the head regarding the heat & humidity. One other thing to consider is the daily showers/t-storms. Our trip last June ended up with several nights back at the hotel bc the lightning was shutting most things down & we were drenched in seconds (the heavens would just open up!). So, we had much less park time than we’d originally planned… we thought the showers would be in the afternoons (as it often is in FL) & we planned to go back to the parks in the evenings. But no. And of course, we’d already spent the afternoon cooling off in the pool bc we were soooo hot & tired (it’s brutal!). Thankfully, since we know we’ll be back to Disney rain isn’t going to ruin our vacation & we still had a fantastic time

Moral of the story: really take advantage of those morning hours!!


ETA- bc I’m a glutton for punishment, and apparently have no self-control regarding Disney, we’re planning another August trip this year… so, to answer your Q- yes, it can still be totally fun & manageable (as long as you set your expectations appropriately!)

We've gone in August and it's manageable and fun. We're scheduled to go for 2 weeks this August. Midday swim breaks are great and most attractions are indoors so you'll get lots of air conditioning.

We go the last 2 weeks of August every year and yes its hot but we love it. I've been in January and I'll take the heat an humidity all day over the cold. Lots of pool time and keep hydrated and you'll have a great trip.

My daughters and I did the first week of August and had some much fun. Yeah, it’s hot. Expect it to be. Dress for it. Plan breaks.

We are going back in August 2022 just because we enjoyed our trip so much.

Afternoon rain is expected. But it doesn’t last long. It won’t ruin your trip.
