WDW fans going to DL in 2005

Is DL's space mtn different than WDW's ? I have heard alot of talk about the one there at DL and just wondered what the big deal was about it. :bounce:

Well right now it's being completely gutted and rebuilt, so who knows what the new incarnation will be like. But previously it was pretty different. There is only one track, not two like at WDW. Riders sit side by side (picture a rocket with the seating arrangement of WDW Splash Mountain). And my favorite difference, the soundtrack. There was this "space music" that played, and IMO it totally made the ride. It was/is very different, and even though I am a WDW girl at heart, I did think the DL version of Space Mountain was better.

Thanks B'rer Karen!
I didn't know it was so different! Sounds way cool , I hope the reurb.'s don't change it's initial design then. After all, it was the way Walt wanted it!:p

The refurb on space mountain is not supposed to change the layout at all. It's supposed to be the same ride just safer!LOL But they are getting new cars with a better sound system.
One thing I noticed when I rode the two seperate rides is that the DL version is alot darker also.

I'm planning on it. My husband goes to LA about once a year at least on business-- some years we go along. We will definitely go along in 2005. Usually we just day trip from whatever hotel we are at in LA or Pasadena, but for the 50th we might spring for a couple nights at the Grand Californian!

We will be there. We are actually going to be doing a couple of days there followed by a cruise out of Long Beach, for my sons 16th birthday.

We'll be there! I've gone to DL at least once a year for the last 28 years of my life, so it's pretty assured that we'll be planning to go. I can't wait to see what they have planned for the 50th anniversary.

We were there just a month ago and could see the construction of ToT! I got so excited! :D

Does anyone know if the on site hotel at DL is accessible through a DVC membership? Can you trade points to stay there in other words? This might be another point I can make to get my DH to join DVC!!

There are three onsite hotels, Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel, and Paradise Pier Hotel. I've read before that you can use points for them.
